"the politicians can no longer ignore us"

We are seeing that both Europe and America have developed a political and media class that feels itself superior to the wishes of the people. Right now, in the USA, this is expressing itself in an attempt to discredit Ted Cruz and to dismiss popular efforts to close the borders to massive illegal immigration. In Europe, the focus is on the Islamicization of European society being foisted on an unwilling native public by the political and media elites.

Europe (and to some extent the USA) feels very 1788.
I expect the entrenched government powers of today may provoke a repeat.
