Crowdfunders raise $15K for man who confronted Ferguson protesters

A San Diego father of six shown in a viral 10News video yelling at Ferguson protestors who were blocking Interstate 5 during rush hour in La Jolla in late November expected to go to jail after his confrontation.

Instead, his family got $15,000 in donations and an early Christmas.

Tyree Landrum works three jobs to support his wife and six kids. On the morning of Nov. 26, Landrum was headed to work when a group of University of California, San Diego, students shut down Interstate 5 near Nobel Drive to protest the Ferguson grand jury decision. The video showed Landrum shove a protester, grab a bullhorn and go on a rant. The video garnered significant support for Landrum on social media.

“I was inspired by his dedication, his willingness to fight to support his family,” 10News viewer Ryan Fusco said. “So I decided to start a crowd-funding campaign and it took off. It blew way past what our expected goal was.”

Tyree and his wife watched as Fusco and several others decorated a Christmas tree and brought in loads of wrapped gifts -- too many to count. Then Tyree called the children in.

“Whoa!” one of his young daughters said in disbelief, eyes glued on the lit tree surrounded by mounds of colorful presents.

Tyree’s wife held a baby as the five other children shyly started exploring the tree -- as if they were unsure all the gifts were really for them.

Once the children got the green light from dad to open a few presents, they were all giggles and smiles. Reality set in.

“Very, very happy, excited, glad and blessed,” Tyree said smiling as he watched his children open gifts.

“I thought I was going to go to jail,” Tyree said. “I never expected my kids would get the best Christmas of their lives.”

he was arrested? for what, being a Man with stones who wasn’t going to put up with BS?

My god this “Law” crap we have here now in the US is so f’d up. Stand up, go to jail and have to pay for legal help for standing up.

Hope the guy pulls in plenty more.

He was not arrested. He was afraid he would be arrested for taking the megaphone. Instead, he was filmed, and he became momentarily famous.
