A hostage has been forced to hold up an Islamic State flag in the window of a shop in Martin Place that is currently under siege.
It is believed there are 12 hostages in the store and an ISIS flag has been placed in the window.

The reporter is right...we’re seeing the national security in Australia jacking it up in real life as they’ve been trained to do...the muscle is enormous.
Unfortunately they could be.
Ultra right wing - dangerous. They go well beyond conservatism into blatant racism at times.
Yes...that League is throughout Europe as well...absolutely oppose Muslims in their countries...and they will go head to head if pushed by the Muslim community.
What they do is if Muslims protest something..they will show up to counter them.
So is that Grand Mufti talking to this terrorist or what? Can he not print up an IS flag and take it over to him?
Assuming he doesn’t already have one?
First I heard of them.
The US has a lot of civilian militia groups that are similar, I think.
Yes they do go beyond conservtivism....
I’m following a Muslim from Australia now...very concerned Muslims will be afraid to be on the streets tomorrow...and rightly so.
I have no problem with them myself...though they can go overboard...they at least see the threat for what it is while Gov. officials continue to flirt with Islam.
Evidently you can’t just order an ISIS flag off of e bay.
It isn’t just Muslims they are against. They’d go too far even if they were in my view, but at least you can argue a genuine threat from at least some Muslims. ADL hates a lot more broadly than that.
Just woke up what IS THE LATEST?
I can’t add much to your comments except I wish people would stop calling the terrorists “radical” Muslims. They are more accurately “fundamentalist” Muslims. While it may seem a minor distinction, it is important for westerners to understand the history of Islam, and recognize it has always been spread and maintained by violence and intimidation.
Now is the time for Damascus to become a smoking pile of rubble, 300 miles radius from their courthouse.
Siege is ongoing. Five hostages have either been released or escaped. Negotiations are underway.
I have to say CNN is pretty good at breaking news. As long as one is aware of their bias, and can separate the wheat from the chaff, they’re a good news source. They have reporters EVERYwhere.
I still have ABC up but am alternating which one I listen to. CNN’s reporting things I have yet to hear on ABC. All they’ve said is that contact has been made with the thug.
I think the difference here is that the Australians understand that “loose lips sink ships’ and they play it closer to the vest. Our news media don’t care what they say, even if it’s something that shouldn’t be out there yet.
Ok, haven’t heard this on CNN yet - - one of the hostages is being treated at a hospital. Since they’ve reported already that no hostages had been injured, this is probably due to shock. Easy to believe that.
They can add another “Like” to that one!
Mossad called, they want to scale that down to 150. Check a map.
The US has evacuated its consulate in Sydney, which is located nearby the Lindt Cafe.
Sky News reports a 6th hostage has escaped/released
They did report the gunman’s demands, but went back to the original taking of hostages, guess they are recapping for new viewers now.
