The only way to get a viable 3rd party off the ground would be if existing GOP leaders, eg. Cruz, Lee, Sessions and others in the house were to bolt the party. I agree but I am not sure what percentage of voters we would take with us. Myself and just about everyone on FR would be in. People who listen to talk radio will be in. Most military, police, firemen types will be in. I think we could get a majority of the blue collar people to join us.
But what percentage of the overall GOP population can we get? 30%? 60%? 80? I just don't know.
I do know that we won't be getting the backing of the chamber or much of Wall Street. Can we scrape together enough funds to even be viable?
I also know that what we are doing now has been and will continue to be a colossal failure. We need to move in a different direction.
UKIP seems to be a possible model we could follow.

If the 3rd party consisted of 10% of the electorate or more, I think most Republicans and non-liberals would join. I think the motivation of most Republicans at this point is to keep the communist/democrat from holding office. If it was clear to the majority of the GOP that enough of the party membership had left so that the GOPe’s could not be reelected anyway, they would likely bolt. I honestly believe that sort of civil war, a third party is the only answer along with, of course, an Article V convention. The establishment republicans are clearly as corrupt and dishonest and perverted as any democrat, they are just a little less so. We need to have better options to vote for, and a third party is the only this is going to happen. By the way, there are already some good 3rd parties out there, we do not have to start from scratch. Wouldn't it be great if the libertarian party replaced the democrat party, and the Constitution party replaced the republican party?
