I am not her, but I frequently travel to Riverhead and depending upon the day of the week and time of day, the drive from the Throgs Neck Bridge to Riverhead can take as little as little as an hour or as much as five hours. Right now, based upon current driving conditions, Mapquest estimates the drive from Mineola to Riverhead at 56 min.

I have also flown in and out of the Westhampton Airport, where the air national guard base is located, on many occassions.

Why do I get the feeling that you are or are closely related to a LEO in Suffolk County.

Believe it. I also live on Long Island not 15 minutes from this woman. I also am familiar with cops, fire fighters and ambulance workers who think they’re demi-gods and sadly, like so any Long Islanders, they hate that citizens have the right to own weapons. This cop was a jerk and this arrest was ridiculous.

I remember when this story broke out years ago there was a bit of divided opinion here on this case with some supporting the woman and others like yourself claiming there was more to the story and that no cop would arrest a woman for an illegitimate reason.

Well a New York jury has spoken. I’m glad that this lady prevailed. As high taxes are a fact of life here its doubtful anyone will notice the penny increase to pay the award, although there might be plenty who object due to politics. I have a daughter to raise but she’s almost grown and hopefully we’ll be out of here one day.

Absolutely right. I know a lot of Long Island cops, and they just don’t think in the way that would lead you to arrest a 58-year-old woman and say “I’m going to make an example of you to other right-wingers.” It just didn’t happen. I could see them saying that to some tweaker from Mastic or banger from Roosevelt while cuffing them facedown on the pavement after mouthing off ... but this? Nah.

Now, Long Island cops aren’t exactly conservatives. They are very well-paid government employees who rely for their big salaries and their (to a private sector person) almost unimaginably generous retirement plans upon local and state government which the public employee unions have almost entirely captured, and on the extremely high taxes that their captive government is willing to impose. If there were a robust Tea Party movement on Long Island which was stalking the tax assessor or PBA President driving his kids to lacrosse practice, sure I could see them getting up in arms about a right winger — but the military? No way. Cops are completely pro-military, and are important component of the Guard and Reserve manpower by the way. (I played golf with a LI police lieutenant who told me their guys had suffered more shots-fired-in-anger injuries in Iraq and Afghanistan at $600/week than they had in patrolling Nassau and Suffolk Counties at $2000/week in the past 15 years.)

I used to drive by that helicopter all the time. It’s totally disabled, easily viewed from the road and out there for display. If they didn’t want people to take pictures of it it should have been in a less conspicuous location. It was a stupid arrest and anyone who doesn’t think so is no conservative. They’re police lapdogs who think any arrest is a good arrest.

Yes, I realize this is from her attorney’s website and is self-serving, but now that the jury has awarded her $1.1 million and compensatory damages (and will probably award a lot more when the trial moves to the punative damages stage), I suspect that the staement of event is relatively truthful.

Yes, that’s it. Easily accessible by road as you head to or from Montauk Highway. Why was it illegal to take pictures of that then? That’s right, it’s not. That’s why Ms. Genovese was let go and awarded damages!

When this case was first reported back in 2009, I recall reading that she was a gadfly of sorts and vocally critical of the obscenely high taxes that Long Islanders pay to fund some of the highest paid police officers, teachers, and other public employees in the Country.

There's two types of cops in this world: liars and those who have yet to be caught lying.

...

I can’t believe she’s still getting grief. Everything she did was perfectly legal.

“There’s two types of cops in this world: liars and those who have yet to be caught lying. “

I’ve dealt with some of that type, but I’ve also met (and am good friends with) several actually GOOD cops! I’ve gone on multiple ride-alongs with cops I know in the area as well as ones I didn’t know. Friday nights in the summer are by far the best times for a ride-along due to all of the activity, FAR better than paying to go to an amusement park.

As an example of how a good cop operates, my friend the Deputy Sheriff Sargent says he always deals with people who are holded up by themselves by simply WAITING! Cut off the water and utilities and he says they’ll eventually come out on their own every time. He says it makes no difference to him how long it takes because he gets paid either way.

Really GOOD cops look at it as pretty much just a job, and their job is generally to resolve fuched up situations, catch bad guys, and do it all with the least amount of fuss possible.

Ask your GOOD cop friends what happens to a GOOD cop that snitches on a BAD cop.

The reason why the BAD cops are still on the force is because the so-called GOOD cops look the other way.

“so-called GOOD cops”

So, in your book then, there’s no such thing as a good cop, right: all cops are bad, period, not a SINGLE good cop in the U.S.?

Point me to the locale where it's illegal for a cop to lie to a citizen and I'll show you a good cop.

Why is it the collective fault of ALL cops that the court system and legislatures have said it’s acceptable for cops to lie to citizens? That particular fault lies with the courts and legislatures.

Which gets us back to my original assertion.

There are two types of cops in this world --those who've been caught in their lies and those who have yet to be caught lying.
