Bothered? Perhaps; but certainly not for the reasons you may assume.

I had a co-worker once, who seemed like a reasonable man. One morning, on arrival at our work site, he spotted a 5-gallon bucket of rust-proofing compound, and (maybe due to a lack of coffee, or some other unknown distraction) immediately launched into a 15 minute, profanity laced tirade against the company we worked for. For some reason, his mind had transposed the label on the bucket to read "roof-rusting compound". Such a product doesn't actually exist, of course, but my friend was absolutely incensed that the "@&$#%%! FOOLS" who had just announced that we would not be getting a cost-of-living raise that year, would waste precious money on such a bat-guano insane thing as roof rusting compound. I was truly embarrassed for him.

You see, he was arguing against his own fevered imaginings.

It appears that I may have made a few statements in this thread that could be, and were, misconstrued. The first of which, apparently, was " I'm not following you." You realize that does not always mean "I don't understand what you're saying", right? Sometimes it simply means that I'm not taking the bait, not going there, etc.

The second, of course, is that little "you'll find out" that I tossed in at the end of my long-winded screed.

What you don't know, like a novice who suddenly believes they are an expert on aircraft technology because they once flew on a commercial jet, is the reason for saying it. Far from being my own attempt at Clancyism, it was a wink and a nod to my loved ones. You see, my daughters (both of them) were raised in church, learning to fear and love God; and in the woods, learning to stalk, and to shoot straight. I seriously doubt that either of them could be taken alive.

So rather than continue to prop up and assault straw men created from your own misunderstanding of what I've said and who I may be; let me offer this.

It is truly a weak conservative who opposes a correct and conservative position, simply because a hated Democrat pretends to embrace the same position. No one here has ever heard me deny that I would defend my loved ones to the death if necessary.

My position throughout this thread has simply been that Ted Cruz' statement was spot-on correct, truly a conservative position, and truly an American one.

If I have erred in refusing to debate the merits of roof-rusting compound with you, then that's my mistake to live with. I'm calling this off.
