If I walk into an ambiguous situation and shoot someone who turns out to not really be a threat, I’m in major trouble.

Why should a less stringent standard be applied to cops?

Because no one's calling your stupid ass when they're in trouble.

If you encounter an "ambiguous" situation on the streets, you can just run away and keep your conscience clean.

Pretty sure you wouldn't voluntarily go to help out people at a Rec center in Cleveland who are calling about a little gangbanger in training.

I wouldn't either, but I sure as hell wouldn't bitch like a woman about those who do.
