“With Mary Landrieu’s ignominious exit, the Democrats will have lost their last senator in the Deep South”

Would Florida not be considered the Deep South?

By all means, there are parts of Florida (Miami, Orlando, etc) that definitely don’t have the Deep South buzz - but there are still many parts that do.

For that matter, what would we consider Virginia - mid-south?

Just wondering, that’s all...

The most logical definition of Deep South is the seven states that seceded first.

FL most definitely applies. Except that it isn’t really southern any more. I’t more like a cross section of the country, which is of course why it’s a swing state.

Unfortunately, Maryland and Virginia have turned into DC Metro.
