Interesting article. The big question is if it is possible to break the “blue wall” on electoral votes.
I know tomasky wrote this but it could just as easily have been Trotsky.
Well there you have it folks, this animosity towards the South is not rare or new at all. Why o why must we in the South stay in this Godless communist Union? Where/when will our 21st century Ft. Sumter moment come, when is enough enough?
“With Mary Landrieus ignominious exit, the Democrats will have lost their last senator in the Deep South”
Would Florida not be considered the Deep South?
By all means, there are parts of Florida (Miami, Orlando, etc) that definitely don’t have the Deep South buzz - but there are still many parts that do.
For that matter, what would we consider Virginia - mid-south?
Just wondering, that’s all...
Dixie has already dumped the demonRATS.
Yes we did! We are celebrating Landrieu’s loss and our gain.
They can call us what they want as if we care. We care about our country, our constitution, our government and our rights as Americans. While I think liberals are closet racists, they quickly use that word to describe us. Are they really describing themselves? Anyway, who knows what those loony toons think. I am glad I live in the South and can still say the pledge or pray without some idiot, arrogant lib stopping me. And, if anyone breaks into my house I can introduce them to “my little friend!” Again, Adieu Landrieu!

Good observation
The problem is systemic within the Republican elite, and it's even worse than just CA. The Republican Elite have written off all 50 states.
Don't despair, see my tagline, it can still be fixed, we have a powerful friend.
“Let the GOP have it and run it and turn it into
Free-Market Jesus Paradise.”
If you in the South create such a paradise, I’d
join you in a heartbeat from here in Californica.
I’d even struggle with you against King “DC” George
to make it happen. It would be these united States
as originally designed.
Should have been a hysteria alert.
Loved it.
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know tomorrow. "
With a few extra resources we could have picked up five to six extra congressional districts that proved to be very tight.
Dope and casino funding is tough to fight.
So campaign for Congress on a platform of states' rights: 'CA can have its dope (but I'll fight to see that not a seed of it leaves the state).'
In addition to dope and casino funding, you left out the biggest source of funding for Dems in CA: The public employees unions. Behind that the trial lawyers and Hollyweird.
Please dump us ... and DON'T COME BACK!
Racist trope.
Well I don’t think Gov. Moonbeam has improved things so much here in CA. We still have among the highest tax rates in the country. We still have among the highest unemployment rates in the country. We are easily among the most anti-business states in the entire country with many businesses continuing to flee the state. The public employees unions maintain a tight grip on Sacramento. Illegal immigration is out of control, and Moonbeam is ringing the dinner bell for more to come over signing them up for Obamacare and free bennies not to mention drivers licenses. We have plenty of oil and water in our state but the libs won’t let us tap those resources. And when you add up all the unfunded liabilities of our state pension funds we are already effectively bankrupt. I don’t know what, if anything, Gov. moonbeam has done to turn around this sorry state of affairs here in CA.
Uh.... no. The South moved on from such things LONG ago. To suggest otherwise is, at best, ignorant.
And these are the people who pride themselves on their tolerance of the Other.
