I caught that. Odd sort of envy-thing going on there. Professes to be a “friend” of Rush but resents his own perception of Rush’ independence and independent thinking (while agreeing with it).
It was, imo, an id-induced snarky pity-party statement beneath him...i.e., you don’t know what it’s like to walk a mile in my shoes (having to take direction, tread carefully, manage my career)-—as if Rush got where he is by accident or luck and has no care or need to manage his own career.
