I certainly do agree with that.
I do not think that this incident involved the issue of race in any way, so I can see why discussing the race of the sergeant isn’t particularly useful.
But still, if someone does wish to discuss it, I would discuss it provided their points have some sort of merit.
I would also agree that saying that the state is absolved because there was a black sergeant there is not a valid point.
