YOUR HIT PARADE, 1941
#3 The Ink Spots: I Dont Want to Set the World on Fire These fellows were from Indianapolis: Orville Jones (1902-44), Ivory Watson (1909-69), William Kenny (1914-78), and Charlie Fuqua (1919-71). They had all sung in different groups and came together in 1936 at the Apollo Theater. Two years later they had their first hit marked with their unique instrumentation. Like the Drifters, they went through a number of singers over the years. They are considered the progenitors of doo-wop.
