Go back to the .45 ACP. Proven manstopper, even with FMJ 230 gr. If war fighters have to rely on a pistol, make sure it kills the enemy. If not the .45, next bet would be the FN Five Seven...but then that is a whole new caliber.
40 S&W makes more sense.
I would bet they want a caliber with the stopping power of the .45 and additional magazine capacity of the 9mm.
If all of this sounds familiar it is; the same argument was used when the FBI adopted the .40 S & W.
they will probably go with it too; most of the common subguns are chambered for the round as well.
It would solve some supply chain problems as well.
But...but the recoil might sprain a female warrior's wrist...
45s are too big for women and femi-gays.
that’s why they went down to 9s, but now they are seeing it’s not enough and they’ll probably do what the cops did and move to 40s - basically the stubby 10mm.
Is the .45 ACP round NATO standard? I thought one of the reasons for the switch to 9 mm was that was the NATO standard.
I would go with the FN Five Seven it is a lightweight polymer-based with a large magazine capacity, ambidextrous controls, low recoil, and the ability to penetrate body armor when using certain cartridge types.
“war fighters” ???
Is that a politically correct term for GI?
Personally, I’d rather be called a GI or even a grunt; “War Fighter” sounds to sissy boy wannabe.
9mm JHP defense rounds are the best out there
I also have 40s&w pistols, but they have special recoil systems Beretta PX4 Storm has rotary barrel, and H&K P30L has a recoil buffer, both reduce recoil felt by at least 30% making 40S&W almost as easy to hold as 9mm.
I thought of getting a 45acp, but would rather carry 15rounds instead of 8.
That designation was obsoleted by SAAMI in 1940 and replaced with ".45 Auto". SAAMI and the American National Standards Institute are the authorities, not a bunch of wannabe gun nuts.
Where have they been? Reading too much from gun writers, the majority of whom gained their entire education on the subject by reading other gun writer's drivel"
The U.S. military has never chambered any of their type classed weapons for the .45 ACP or .45 Auto cartridges. Not the 1911 serious of pistols, not the 1917 Revolvers, not the Thompson sub machine gun series, not the M3 Grease Gun series, not the Liberator Pistol, not the Reising submachine gun, etc. They were all chambered for the Cartridge, Ball, Caliber 45, Model 1911.
And for the neophytes, the .45 ACP, .45 Auto, .45 Auto+P and Caliber 45 Model 1911 are different cartridges even though most dimensions are similar. Each is manufactured and acceptance tested with completely different Technical Data Packages. The pressure specifications are different and not even tested with the same type equipment and procedures. The numbers are not interchangeable. Every box of ammunition made by SAAMI members and other responsible manufactures carries some form of the warning, "Only use ammunition that exactly matches the markings on your gun" Read the headstamp stupid! And don't waste your and other's time with silly lists of the exceptions you can find that document ignorant or irresponsible manufacturers. Some folks are just real slow in getting the word. Lift yourself above that level.
Good day.
The 1911 slabsides has never been improved upon. The 9mm interregnum was a mistake.
The 45ACP was designed to put down Juramentados who did not feel the .38 Colt.
Why try to improve on a successful cartridge unless you go to a .45 truncated bullet?
Go back to the 1911!
45 all the way!! 9mm is too light.
