Uh, it's real.

After visiting Reno in 1988, I developed CFS. Reno was then a CFS hotspot. I did not want to be sick. I was employed and not looking to do anything but pay my own way, which I continued to do. My doctor found all sorts of viral stuff in my blood tests--fortunately, he believed me.

Once, on a trip to Baltimore, I fell asleep in a noisy room full of relatives of a friend. I was not drinking or taking any medications, and it was the middle of the day with bright sunshine. These people were strangers to me. I could fall asleep anywhere, anytime.

Fortunately, the condition was not permanent, to my great relief.

I once fell asleep on a bench in the middle of Heathrow airport.

Yup, I had this too in my 20s and 30s. I got it after coming down with a strange, severe form of what was surmised to be bacterial pneumonia. I was a marathoner at the time, at college in Boston. In November I was running the river loop from Newton, a total of 18.8 miles, 5 days a week. Then 10 miles on my off day. I was taking full time classes at B.C. and also had a part time job. By February I was no longer running or working and sleeping 18 hr.s when not in school. I eventually had to drop out of college due to a lack of money and energy.

I don’t know if it was ‘this’ CFS but it was definitely some form of CFS. It lasted over 10 years.
