Chris Rock explained in a lengthy interview Sunday that he believes part of healing racial relations in America is by white people “owning” the actions of their ancestors.

The black comedian told New York magazine’s Frank Rich that racial progress in America is “nonsense” and that the only thing that’s changed is white people aren’t as crazy as they used to be.

While it's true that the Republican Party was founded as an abolitionist party, several prominent Republican's had owned slaves prior to the War of 1861, including the wives of Generals Grant and Sherman.

This country was founded on the belief than one does NOT have to "own" the actions of one's ancestors. This country was founded on the belief that one must only "own" one's own actions; but that one MUST "own" those actions.

And, Mr. Rock, just so you'll know, the abandonment of the idea that everyone is responsible for their own actions is the greatest reason why racial progress in America is “nonsense” (if, indeed, it is).

Being from Pennsylvania my ancestors are Dutch, French and Indian. Several fought in the Civil War to free the slaves and one was severly wounded in that effort. Noneof them bought sold or owned slaves.
Now to you. Will you own the action of blacks in Africa attacking each others tribes taking captives and them selling them to the slavers?
