I fear the ego is there to do whatever he wants to do.

No one is immune from human failure; however, this man has gotten to where he is by a very disciplined approach to living with humility. He has said that he starts every day by reading the Book of Proverbs. His autobiographical books have always stressed the practical application of Christian principles in life. I've had the privilege of meeting him and his family on a couple of occasions. Very gracious people. He and his wife have run a charity for years to help kids who are struggling. With his proceeds from a career in groundbreaking neurosurgery, he could have spent his money on lavish living; but he has not.

I have too! Well, only one occasion, up north of Nashville, in Portland, TN. I didn’t meet his wife, but his mother was with him. What a piece of work she was! Not nice at all.
But him...he was really great, personable, kind, lots of good adjectives.

Doctors, especial surgeons and double of neurosurgeons, are not known for their great humility, in my experience of working with them. We have one in the family, too. Carson may be an exception, but I doubt he’d have made it if he were humble. They are treated like they are special, because they are exceptional. Most don’t even begin surgery on their own until they are in their forties because their training is so intense and complicated. That all goes to their heads.

One thing about neurosurgeons is that they tend to have a great respect for life - even imperfect life - given the nature of their work on injured brains. The humanist Obamacare typical would make neurosurgeons unemployed.
