RE: When my ancestors came here, there was no Washington, D.C., no White House, and the capital of the colony was in a different location than the State capital would eventually end up.
When my wife’s people got here, no one knows, but they were here long before that.

I’ve hear arguments from the left saying that one of the earliest illegal immigrants to America were the Pilgrims.
The enlightened Indians, represented by Squanto, actually helped them survive.
Therefore, according to the left, we today have to follow Squanto’s example by caring for these newly arrived illegals ( AKA modern day Pilgrims ).
Not my family. They were not lost (the Pilgrims had been on their way to Virginia, iirc).
The area granted to my ancestors by an European monarch had two indigenous tribes fighting over it when they arrived.
My ancestors bought the area from both tribes and settled the dispute in the process.
