"As Joan Rivers said the secret to a great comic is saying what other people are thinking but afraid to say!"
Jack Benny could be funny even when saying almost nothing, as in:
Benny (while shopping, addressing the store clerk, who is facing away from him, adjusting merchandise on the shelves): "Oh, excuse me, sir."
Frank Nelson (turning towards Benny): "E-y-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-s?
Benny (after long pause and glance at the audience): "You! You work here?"
Frank Nelson: "No, I'm one of those bold daylight robbers you read about."
Benny: "Now cut that out!"
