  "UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. – A woman is dead and a police officer is seriously injured after a shooting in University City Monday night.

  Det. Sgt. Fredrick Lemons with the University City Police Department says officers were called to the 7400 block of Wayne around 10 p.m. for a report of a burglary in progress. The caller said a man climbed through a bedroom window and started shooting.

  Lemons says when officers arrived at the scene they found a woman with a gunshot wound to her leg. She was taken to an area hospital where she died. Police have identified as 55-year-old Donna Washington.
