Chuck Schumer: Passing Obamacare Was a Mistake

Democrats made a mistake by passing President Barack Obama’s health-care law in 2010 instead of focusing more directly on helping the middle class, third- ranking U.S. Senate Democrat Charles Schumer said today.

“Unfortunately, Democrats blew the opportunity the American people gave them” in electing Obama and a Democratic Congress in 2008 amid a recession, Schumer of New York said in a speech in Washington. “We took their mandate and put all our focus on the wrong problem -- health care reform.”

Schumer said Democrats should have addressed issues aiding the middle class to build confidence among voters before turning to revamping the health-care system. He said he opposed the timing of the health-care vote and was overruled by other party members.

“The plight of uninsured Americans and the hardships created by unfair insurance company practices certainly needed to be addressed,” the senator said. “But it wasn’t the change we were hired to make” in the 2008 election.

Go for it. Your support for the insurance companies who are behind this monstrosity exposes your liberal attitudes.

What else could come out that would be any more difficult to ignore then what has come out? This is simply positioning for 2016.

Shmucky is gearing up early for 2016. By next year this idiot will be telling New Yorkers he told Zero what a mistake Zerocare was long before he voted for it.

Conservatives should heed Schumer’s words before they make similar mistakes. The GOP was not hired to shut down the government or impeach Obama. The GOP should focus on the thing they were hired to do: improve the economy to create jobs and raise wages.
. . . but there is a real issue of whether the GOP can do anything without “shutting down the government” - an expression which belongs squarely in scare quotes because in the real world OBAMA has the final word on that. It’s not that “it takes two to make an argument,” it takes two to make an agreement.

If Obama doesn’t choose to agree - viola!! There goes the GOP shutting down the government again! Just like back in the eighties when REAGAN “shut down the government” by not signing Democrat legislation.

In all cases the GOP is blamed by the grubercrats. And since journalists are all grubercrats . . .

Agree completely. And even the Dems won’t get care after they hit 75. Just ask Zeke Emannuel.

Maybe the new rise in Premiums? A friend who is not yet 65, had good health insurance before O-care but then had to buy O-care, has told me his premiums doubled with the new insurance and have now been raised another 37%. Of course, no mention of this in Big Media.

> Insurance companies and Lawyers are the problem with healthcare. They are nobodies friend except their own.

And one of the major reasons healthcare costs much more than it used to decades ago comparatively other than.for adjusting the prices to factor in those that don’t pay their bills and just plain greed articulately when it comes to electronic medical equipment which is priced through the roof for what it is.

Corporations don’t do things that are unfair; it is not in their interest to do so. If a corporation is doing something it is because it makes financial sense to do so. It is a simple fact that the poor do not have much expendable income available to buy top of the line insurance policies if a policy of any kind. But then there is Medicaid. Some people on the other hand simply chose not to buy healthcare insurance (which is fair because it is their choice). Saying that personal choices made by free people are unfair is rhetorical fraud.

ALL TRUE! And I'll add a couple more things: health insurance has been operating on a tiny profit margin for many years...and it takes a real moron to want his insurance company to be poor. If the check for the EKG bounces, you can forget getting the bypass operation......think about it.

The elites will always get the care. When Zeke is 78 and needs a hip replacement or kidney transplant he will demand to be first in line and he will be first in line at the finest medical facility in the nation for his condition. Of course, that facility will not admit the average citizen, no matter what age. The only concern Zeke might have is his replacement kidney coming from one of the unwashed.

"Good freaking grief!!! Insurance companies and lawyers are NOT the problem with healthcare!!!"

Thank you for saying that. It is just what I wanted to say when I read post #6.

In the beginning, the free market controlled the costs of medical care. Doctors and hospitals could not charge more that patients could pay, simply because if they did so then they would have no patients. There was help for he truly poor as they could pay "in kind" (with a chicken for example)and there were charity wards, etc. Then insurance companies came along and people could pay premiums to insure that if they had severe medical problems, they could still pay the bills. Of course, once the doctors and hospitals and pharmaceutical companies saw that no matter what they charged, the insurance companies would pay, so they began to raise their prices. The insurance companies responded by raising their premiums and the vicious cycle grew. Insurance got to be more expensive than most people could afford or that they wanted to pay. Businesses, thinking that they could attract and keep better qualified employees, began to offer to pay part or all of that insurance price as part of the employee compensation. The government stepped in and made all businesses over a certain size share the cost of insurance with their employees. That meant that insurance as compensation for good work, now lost its original value in that employees got it no matter who they worked for or how well they contributed to the business' profit. And of course the medical providers and insurance companies all saw that they could raise their prices again and again and someone would still pay. Prices have gone far past what all but the very wealthy can afford to pay...... reason, greed all around plus interference by the government who has no authority under the constitution to even be involved in this.

Chuckie KNOWS something is coming out that will put Gruber, and all the O/Care lies, back into the spotlight.

Nice input, E/L. The conniving Schumer is getting ahead of it. I'm guessing the next bombshell is about the $$$billions the Dem hid in O/Care that were never revealed to Americans. A massive, multi-billion-dollar slush fund was deliberately kept hidden from us stupid taxpayers by self-serving Grubercrats.

=========================================

The Untraceable $8 Billion ObamaCare PR Budget---truly govt fraud at its finest. Egged on by Pelosi, Democrats slavishly voted for Obamacare by an historic straignt-party line vote. But not one Democrat told Americans about Obamacare's Section 4002---which mandates an $8B untraceable fund to "promote" Obamacare (apparently b/c Boobamba had so little confidence in his signature legislation).

THE PAYOFF--WHO GETS THE MONEY? In 2010 Taxpayers are extorted $500 million, in 2011, $750 million, 2012, $1 billion, 2013, $1.25 billion, 2014, $1.5 billion, and, in 2015 and on, $2 billion

<><> Where is all that money going?

<><> Was cashing-in the incentive in getting the thing passed.

==================================================

Taxpayers demand to know ---- why Gruber/Obama/Pelosi didnt reveal that Obamacare contains a multi-billion dollar slush fund? Exactly who is cashing in?

The sound of West Wing wire-transfers to offshore banks is almost palpable.

======================================================

LACK OF TRANSPARENCY---THE GRUBERCRAT MO---TREY GOWDY or Chavetz needs to be looking into exactly how Democrats sold their votes for BIG BUCKS---there's the Corhusker Kickback and Mary Landrieu's infamous "Louisiana Purchase."

......according to Congressional Quarterly, both Obama and his odious signature legislation, Obamacare, are hugely unpopular in Louisiana........ Landrieu cast the deciding vote for that law....but there's more....

Some observers note that the Democrat-controlled Senate passed Obamacare "after a series of unsavory transactions that purchased the aye votes of several shrewdly extortionate Democrats"....with a huge pile of money still unaccounted for.

The most unsavory was Landrieu's $4.3 billion "Louisisana Purchase."

THE PAPER TRAIL IS HUGE Sen Landrieu (Scumocrat-LA) sold her aye vote in what Forbes Magazine dubbed "The 'Louisiana Purchase" that included a massive $4.3 Billion to Landrieu

FORBES REPORTED the Democrats’ nailed Landrieu’s support for Obamacare w/ a greenback bribe. Landrieu, critics believe, pledged her vote in exchange for some $200 million more additional federal funds for Louisiana. Except that, due to a drafting error, the law ended up giving Louisiana $4.3 billion: more than twenty times the assigned amount. MORE HERE http://www.forbes.com/fdc/welcome_mjx.shtml

===============================================

BACKSTORY In the fall of 2009, Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was trying to get the necessary 60 Dimocrat votes to pass the Affordable Care Act. He needed every Dim on board, which gave waffling senators a great deal of leverage. In Landrieu's case, she connivingly saw that selling her aye vote could get her maybe $200 million federal dollars. Obama complied. Reid chalked up another vote for Obamacare. But not the measly $200 million but $4.3 billon was attached to the Obamacare bill earmarked for Landrieu.

=================================================

How $4.3 billion to Landrieu was calculatedly attached to the Obamacare bill, and how Obama and Reid failed to catch and fix it, is yet another indictment of the Obamacare atrocity.

The $4.3 billion handoff to Landrieu should be investigated as an indication of how EVERY Democrat came to vote for Obamacare....and how tax dollars were laundered to help elect more lock- stepping Democrats.

This'll wipe that stupid smile off his sneering face.

As the Senate "immigration reform" was going to vote---Judiciary Committee member and patriot, Sen Grassley (Rep-Iowa) offered this simple amendment to the Committee.

"The secretary (of homeland security) may not grant registered provisional immigrant status to an alien under this section unless the alien fully discloses to the secretary all the names and Social Security account numbers that the alien has ever used to obtain employment in the United States," said Grassley's amendment.

Grassley's amendment would not have prohibited illegal aliens from being converted into legal aliens just because they had used names and Social Security numbers that did not belong to them. It would only have required that the illegal aliens make the names and numbers they used known to DHS before they could be granted the right to legally live in the United States.

Grassley said, "Congress should not thumb its nose at the millions of Americans who are victims of identity theft, often perpetrated by an undocumented person who steals Social Security numbers to get jobs, govt benefits, driver's licenses and more. This amendment will simply require the person applying for RPI status to disclose any previously used Social Security numbers," said Grassley. "It's the first step to helping clean up the mess that's been created for the victim of identity theft. The amendment also authorizes certain federal agencies, upon receipt of this information, to notify individuals who were the victims."

===============================================

ON RECORD AS AIDING AND AETTING FELONIES BY BORDER JUMPERS---Ranking member Sen Schumer dismissed Grassley's proposal with these words.

"When people are living in undocumented status, there are times, I suppose, when they've made up identities, made up Social Security numbers," Schumer told his Judiciary Committee colleagues. "How are they going to remember all that, and are we going to delay RPI status? "(The) purpose of this bill is to bring people out of the shadows. We all know when they lived in the shadows, they had to forge documents, forge Social Security numbers, et cetera. I just don't see how, when you've lived here 10 years, and you've had many different identities, many different numbers, you're going to remember them all," said Schumer.

==========================================

The Senate Judiciary committee defeated Grassley's amendment 8 to 10 on a lock-stepping party-line vote.
