“school requires bag lunches from home be exactly the same every day”
Would like to see that enforced. I’d tell the principle to their face that this is none of their business.

I graduated from High School in 1956 and never heard of school lunches.
School days were nicely dived into two periods 9:00 to 12:00 and lunch was from 12:00 to 1:00 giving ample time to go home or visit a local eatery. the afternoon classes were from 1:00 until 4:00.
Today schools usually allocated 30 minutes or less to lunchtime.
By the way 25 cents would buy you a hamburger, bowl of chili and a soda pop, all through school prices remained the same.
