Food Network's Hunger Games
American Thinker ^ | November 24, 2014 | Rosslyn Smith

The Food Network is currently promoting a crusade to end childhood hunger in America. Had the Food Network not been relentless promoters of the Obamas, I could almost see this as an ironic comment on the utter lack of appeal of the food being produced in schools across America in the First Lady's name. But the Food Network is serious. In their holiday promotion their spokespeople cite the much-debunked statistic that one in five children in America goes hungry on a regular basis. .

Something is truly out of whack here. If one in five American children are going hungry how can there also be an epidemic of obesity that requires the downsizing the heavily subsidized public school lunch program to help correct? Basic observation indicates the children of the affluent are neither overweight nor emaciated. If anything, many middle class children tend to look a little pudgy, while a great many of the children of the welfare class and the working poor are noticeably obese. So who and where are those twenty percent of American children who go hungry?

Every time I’ve heard this claim I often thought it was made up, how can we be suffering with a childhood obesity problem and a childhood hunger problem?

My daughter is in a school corp here in Indiana...they have FREE breakfast for everyone...and all the kids eat it because of variety and what they serve...it ain’t No Michellee foods!

I don’t know how they do it - but they do...other school corps have a bag lunch as they call it for students to take home during the weekend with enough food for each child for all 3 meals until they can get back to school...

I would use that program to identify the parents - and then hold them accountable for buying smokes and beer and for not feeding their children! pathetic...that just in my neck of the woods - two different programs just to make sure these kids get food!

I occasionly was hungry when growing up. Usually around 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon, right when school let out. If you asked a group of kids if they ever went to bed hungry you’d get a high percentage of ‘yes’.

The same way more snow and colder winters are caused by global warming.

A liberal says so.

“Usually around 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon, right when school let out.”

I was never a big eater, but yes I too remember feeling starving between school and dinner! And looking at all the pictures of food in my mom’s magazines didn’t help!

I work with a guy who is grossly obese. He never eats during the day. He regularly goes and entire day without eating. But he makes up for it. So, he’d answer the question with, “Yes, I regularly go an entire day without food.”

When I had to design and administer surveys I discovered that it was almost impossible to get the data I was looking for as it was too difficult to design questions that exactly fitted everybody’s experience.

It always helps to have a healthy dose of skepticism and common sense when reading claims such as this.

For example the claim women make 70 cents for every dollar a man makes. Yet I never had a job, nor has anyone been able to name one for me, that has one pay scale for men and one for women. And remember when the USA had the highest rate of infant mortality rate? That was debunked because there were variances in the way different countries recorded IMR

Haven’t watched the food network since they dumped that southern lady who loved butter.

I was attending a community college a few years ago. The sorority was holding a food drive with a banner saying “One in five children are starving”. I told him (yes him) that there are no starving children in America. He gave me a really dirty look. I then asked to see pictures of children, in the USA with distended bellies from starvation. I walked away from the silence.

I challenge it just on the basis of 1 in 6 on food stamps. If we are giving that many people free food each month, how then can their families be “hungry”?

Or a news report from a reputable source of a child starving to death. The only exception being cruel parents deliberately starving a child. I'm 69 years old and I've never seen a single instance. Not one in the U.S. anyway

Lately I've seen stats that say 20% of American children have fear of food depravation, they have a term for it but I can't remember what it's called. A stat that's impossible to prove or disprove, similar to the Obama claim of how many jobs his administration has "saved".

If a child is hungry today in the U.S. it is from parents selling their food stamps.

I live in a county where the one third of the population reside in its largest city. I no longer contribute to food banks or Feel Good Holiday Dinners because of the grifters, I send what little money I can afford to USO and Veteran groups.
Wonder how the donations are going in St. Louis County Missouri.

Ditto!

Best episode was when she had a guest chef who made FRIED BUTTER. As soon as Paula put it in her mouth she blurted “F**K!!!!!!!!” Of course it was bleeped for TV but the audience died laughing. The look on her face was priceless!

The reason kids are going hungry is that they’re eating school lunches, instead of actual food.

Maybe if the Mexicans weren’t wiring BILLIONS of dollars across our southern border back HOME they’d have money to pay to raise their OWN families rather than appealing to the welfare state to “get by”.

Those Quakers know how to feed the children, given they can qualify to attend Sidwell.
Meanwhile at the local republican work house:
“Nine-year-old Oliver is a resident in the parish workhouse where the boys are “issued three meals of thin gruel a day, with an onion twice a week, and half a roll on Sundays.” The workhouse is run by Bumble the Beadle, Limbkins is Chairman of the Board of Guardians for the workhouse.”
.......................
‘Please, sir, I want some more.’
.................
‘Mr. Limbkins, I beg your pardon, sir! Oliver Twist has asked for more!’
“There was a general start. Horror was depicted on every countenance.”
http://charlesdickenspage.com/twist_more.html

The bumbling, broad beamed Michele 0. aspires to be “Bumble the Beadle” for America and Barak is her Limbkins.
