REPUBLICANS LEAVE TOWN WITHOUT A PLAN TO FIGHT OBAMA (I told you so!)
Breitbart ^ | 20NOV2014 | Jonathan Strong

Posted on 11/21/2014 10:25:30 AM PST by Jack Hydrazine

President Obama's announcement tonight may bring a “constitutional crisis,” in the words of Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID), but Republicans in Congress haven't the damndest idea what they'll do about it.

As they departed the House floor, many en route to the airport for a Thanksgiving recess, many GOP lawmakers seemed as interested in explaining why options floated by colleagues from their own party wouldn't work as denouncing what they describe as an unprecedented power grab by a president they just decimated at the ballot box.

“That's the hundred million dollar question,” said Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-OH), “How do you stop an inaction? That's the tough question that I don't have the answer to today....Just to go a step further: 'shut the government down.' That doesn't stop this inaction. Don't fund immigration service. That doesn't stop this inaction. How do you stop this inaction?”

Until the new Congress is in power in January .. there is very little they can do at the moment.

There is quite a bit they could be doing if they only had some strong leadership.

They should have been filing for an injunction last night before Obama lit up his first doobie.

There are any number of laws being broken by Obama's directives and they should be filing lawsuits against every one of the violations.

Here's an easy one:

There is a law forbidding employers from hiring illegals and Obama's directive has not magically taken that law off the books.

What happens when one of Obama's "Forgiven" applies for a job and is turned down because the employer does not want to violate the law?

What in the hell do you expect them to do right now? Ted Cruz wants to block all Obama nominees except ones vital to national security. Ron Johnson wants to withhold funds for agencies involved with amnesty. But, none of that can happen until Republicans takeover the Senate.

Lawsuits have already been filed by Republican states and by Sheriff Joe.

Take off your knickers off, untangle them and put them back on.

They don’t want to BS. Does Ted Cruz not want to do anything because he wants to wait until Republicans control the Senate and block Obama's nominations to courts and cabinet positions?

Pessimistic, defeatist attitudes are for losers.

He said that he hasn’t seen the party coalesce around a plan.

Some believe it can be done through the courts others believe by the power of the purse. Sessions said a legal challenge would be “reasonable” though difficult given the courts’ recent history of staying out of disputes between the executive and legislative branches. The strategy he preferred would be to fight the president’s action by stopping its funds.

Sessions and his allies have argued Congress should pass a short-term funding bill before the current government funding runs out on December 11, which would allow a united Republican House and Senate to block the funding for the order’s provisions in 2015. But House appropriations chairman Hal Rogers has pushed back forcefully on this idea, and his committee released a statement Thursday morning that the president’s actions could not be blocked this way.

“There is nothing they can do.”

Since January 2011 the GOP House has controlled the purse strings of government per the US Constitution. Every dime spent since then has been with their approval. At any time they can defund programs, positions in the bureaucracy, and even entire departments. They also have the power to change what Washington calls “non discretionary” spending.

They have and have had the power. The problem is they don’t have the backbone, confidence, courage or desire to play Obama’s game. Worse, they made themselves look foolish in 2013 by starting to stand up to Obama and then wilting when they were falsely accused of shutting down the government. It is pathetic they can’t hire a decent PR person to write their talking points, much less stay on message.

What they can and should have been doing for the last 4 years is sending individual spending bills for each department to the Senate for approval, well in advance of the October 1 beginning of the next fiscal year. These bills should build spending plans from the bottom up with a full review of each program so worthless programs and outright gifts to leftist activist groups can be eliminated. Under a real, and disciplined, budget process if the Senate fails to pass the spending bill the House can accuse the Senate of shutting down the government since the House sent a funding bill to the Senate and the Senate rejected it. If the House and Senate pass a spending bill for a department, and the President vetoes the bill, Congress can rightly accuse the President of shutting down the government.

If the President complains the bills sent to him are not sufficient, the leaders of Congress should tell him to have one of the members of his party introduce a supplement appropriations bill in the House which they will consider. Until then he (the President) needs to sign the spending bill on his desk to keep the government from shutting down.

There is plenty they can do. It is sad they have been choosing not to do anything for four years.

Great Point!

Stop jumping to conclusions .. before you have any facts to back up your statements.

Good position to take. Lets see what happens over the next 6 months.

This might be a great opportunity to get the border secured, visa system enforced, and pass a bill ending automatic citizenship for those that are born here. I do not believe obama will sign these bills, but the argument should be made that since he arbitarilly gave residency to those here illegally that have not broken the law we should now focus on the law breakers.

Also, because of obama's arbitrary actions the Pubs now have ample reason not to appoint judges, or other nominees.

Agreed, until they see the signed executive order there is not much they can do. Throwing tantrums, threatening shutting down the government or impeachment just plays into the Dems and medias hands.
Plus I would much rather they NOT hold press conferences or do interviews to tell people what they are going to do.
Just do it!

There's only one thing you can do about dereliction of duty.

Remove the derelict officer.

And in the case of the Commander-in-Chief, there is only one way to do that, constitutionally.

Congress just needs to face up to it, because their only other choice is dereliction of their own duty.

All one has to do is look at the history of the past six years to know that allowing Democrats to win elections is disaster as is hysterical demands by "principled" people that shift public opinions toward Democrats.

Obama wants an overreaction so he can take advantage of it. He wants to divide Republicans and conservatives.

You have no strategy but whining and moaning.

secondly, there is nothing the Republican cans do until they actually become the majority. I know this isn’t going to be popular but I think they have played their cards very well.

I think you're right.

There are so many opportunities that come from this. The 5 million new workers will be competing with all the soccer moms kids, and blue collar union workers. Lets educate them why a complete over haul of the immigration system and control of the borders and visas is so important.

lets get the border secured, get control over the visa system and end babies of illegals born here being citizens.

For example, see 2000-2006, when the R's were in charge in the House, Senate AND White House. We got the Patriot act, Part D, a legacy of bailouts and more. So, how will this time around be any different?

Because we don't have a Republican President like Bush pushing for all that.

The most progress since Reagan left office occurred from 1994 to 2000 when Republicans took over congress and balanced the budget and pushed through welfare reform.

All people like you want to do is whine. You're just wanting for something to go wrong so you can.

Nobody can cite a shred of evidence the GOP will do anything real and substantial to stop this lawless POTUS.

Republicans haven't even taken over the Senate and the budget process yet.

Ted Cruz even wants to wait until Republicans takeover the Senate before acting.

You live to bitch, moan and complain. You sound more like a liberal than a conservative.

Sadly you are correct. There will be a lot of hand wringing but in the end the GOP will be gutless and toothless.
Now if we had aggressive leaders instead of the pathetic ones we have it might be different and at least a fight might have happened. I would rather go down fighting the good fight rather than bend over.

My prediction for the Republican Majority is that whatever optimism you thought you had you should have know better by past results. I refer to 2010 we elected all those newbies and took control of the House. A few months later they all folded like cheap suits on the Debt Limit and everything else.

Nothing and I mean nothing is going to change and all that Big talk on Immigration and Obamacare is just that, TALK. The power to handle Obamacare has been there all along in the House, they could have just refused to fund it and they didn't.

Do we have any Leaders with a Pair to challenge the Status Quo and fight?????????????
