It was a no-lose for the Republicans. If it failed in the Senate, that's a win for making Landrieu look weak. If it passed and Obama vetoed it, that's a win, too, because it smokes Obama out. He can't hide behind studies anymore.
I guess the Democrats decided that protecting Obama was more important than protecting Landrieu.

I guess the Democrats decided that protecting Obama was more important than protecting LandrieuThey have to live with Obama for two more years; they know that Landrieu is a goner, but the dog and pony show is a temporary win-win-win-lose: GOP wins because it looks like it is pushing the pipeline, Dems win because it doesn't happen, Obama wins because he doesn't have to take a stand, Landrieu loses but she's going to lose anyway.
