That whiff of pot that drifts your way at a rock concert or outdoor event could damage your heart and blood vessels as much as secondhand cigarette smoke does, preliminary research suggests.
Blood vessel function in laboratory rats dropped by 70 percent after a half-hour of exposure to secondhand marijuana smoke -- similar to results found with secondhand tobacco smoke, researchers from the University of California, San Francisco reported Sunday.
Reduced blood vessel function can increase a person's risk of developing hardened arteries, which could lead to a heart attack.
"Smoke is smoke. Both tobacco and marijuana smoke impair blood vessel function similarly," said study senior author Matthew Springer, a cardiovascular researcher and associate professor of medicine in the university's cardiology division. "People should avoid both, and governments who are protecting people against secondhand smoke exposure should include marijuana in those rules."

Except that secondhand smoke is a crock just like human-caused global warming!
10 years ago or more El Rushbo cited a WHO, World Health Organization study that was done in Europe to document the perils of secondhand smoke. What they found was that the full strength smoke inhaled by the smoker IS harmful.
But secondhand smoke is diluted so much when it reaches the bystander that, while the SMELL may be unpleasant, the actual physiological hazard is practically nil. So since the result of the study didn’t fit their agenda, they spiked the story, never published it and most people know nothing about it. What else is new for commie-libs?!
Yup. Look up the dangers of wood smoke. Yes. They say that it’s as dangerous as cigarettes. And people allow their children around that crap! /s
But we are told by the CDC second hand smoke kills 50,000 in the US every year.
But...not one death certificate has ever listed “second hand smoke” as the cause of death.
” I can vouch that secondhand tobacco
smoke is annoying. But famously it hasnt
been proven a health hazard.”
Sorry, but if tobacco is bad through a filter, it is probably bad without one. The idea second hand smoke is harmless is idiotic. It don’t take a lot of reasoning to understand second hand smoke is bad.
I don’t want, nor should have to share your cigarette. And anyone not man enough to face life without recreational drugs will get his joint shoved right where it belongs, if he tries to share his high with me.
This could reflect situations that are fairly rare like a fatal asthma attack. I do think smokers ought to be considerate and strictly honor nonsmoking areas for this reason. That may be the only place an asthmatic person can go.
“I dont want, nor should have to share your cigarette”
Then get up and walk away. No one will stop you.
The dilution factors are far greater.
” Then get up and walk away. No one will
stop you.”
And let the smokers determine where I can go in public? No. Smoker arrogance is responsible for no smoking laws. They want to disregard everyone else, then get mad when people say “Fine, then it is illegal.”
I still remember my mother refusing to roll down the car window, and now she makes noise about how laws stopping people from smoking around their kid is wrong. Of course, people like that forget the kid can’t even walk away.
Smoke yourself into oblivion for all I care. But in the war of rights between smokers and nonsmokers, smokers will lose.
Of course Chem Trails are totally safe. :-)
Only safe ting to smoke is tires.
Secondhand pot smoke can be detected in the blood of non pot smokers. It can cost you a job.
They are everywhere now (the pocket-sized kind that looks to be about the size of a thick marking pen).
My bro in law has one for liquid nicotine, and he now mixes his own flavors.
His last mix tasted like Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal.
‘That whiff of pot that drifts your way at a rock concert or outdoor event could damage your heart and blood vessels as much as secondhand cigarette smoke does,’
IE: Not at all! It has no effect on you, unless you have enough concentration to actually get a contact high.
More nanny state nonsense.
The study is flawed. A pot smoker will smoke one joint and that’s it the whole night. At least the ones I know. I do not find the pot smoke all that unpleasant.
Cigarette smokers tend to smoke one after another. Especially when drinking in a social setting. Cig smoke is off the scale unpleasant compared to pot.
My experience and my opion.
There was a time, long ago, when secondhand pipe tobacco smoke was thought by many to be quite pleasant.
Pipe smokers were thought of as rather intellectual & their presence at gatherings was not unwelcome to most.
Anyway, I sat on admin separation boards in the Army & when someone who tested hot for MJ tried to argue it was secondhand MJ smoke from a party, we got the Aberdeen testing lab on speakerphone (aka `the impregnable fortress of urine’) & they informed us it was impossible to raise THC presence to detectable levels due to secondhand MJ smoke.
If the marijuana smoke is really secondhand, I think the grad studentwho had to smoke it and exhale into the rat cage for a half hour shoukd be studied.
Especially since cigarette smokers smoke many cigarettes per day... perhaps 20 or more. Most normal pot smokers (not including total drug head addicts) would only be consuming perhaps one or two joints, and perhaps only on a Friday evening or something.
Primary danger of second hand pot fumes is you will get just enough to test positive. Many times I’ve walked down a hotel hallway. By the time you can smell it, a sensitive test can pick it up. Another reason I object to mandatory pee-in-a-bottle tests for employment. I will not take a job mandating such tests.

And let me guess, it was the fired person stating that it was only secondhand pot smoke. That they never smoked it themselves.
the most prominent story I found online about this just did not pass the sniff test. I’ve known couples where one smokes pot and the other doesn’t. The one who doesn’t NEVER hangs out in the same room as the one who does while the deed is being done.
Good one.
