DENVER — Denver shattered two low temperature records in a matter of hours when the mercury plummeted as skies cleared from the recent storm.

The temperature reached minus 13 degrees just before midnight, breaking the record of minus 4 degrees set on Nov. 12, 1882. And just before 3 a.m. Thursday, the temperature reached minus 14 degrees, breaking the previous record low of minus-3 set on Nov. 13, 1916.

The National Weather Service says Thursday’s mark ties for the second-coldest temperature at any point in November in recorded Denver history.

An NWS observer reported a temperature of minus 24 degrees in Elba, which is about 15 miles south of Akron in Washington County.

A wind chill advisory is in effect until 9 a.m., with wind chills running minus 15 to minus 35 degrees. Several schools are closed or on delayed openings. Roads are icy in some spots but with the snow out of the area, the morning commute should not be as bad as Wednesday’s.

There will be clear skies with some areas of patchy fog but clouds will roll in this afternoon as a storm system hits the mountains with heavy snow. There is a slight chance of a snow shower across the Front Range in the afternoon and evening hours.

The temperature should rise into the teens, which would mark the third consecutive day the high temperature was below 20 degrees, the first time that would happen in recorded Denver history. Temperatures will drop back to near zero overnight before rising into the 30s on Friday.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for the Western Slope mountains until Saturday with up to 10 inches possible by Saturday afternoon.

I cant handle anymore global warming out here. The funny thing is this was the first real freeze of the year. My roses were still blooming on 11/9 right before the front came through.

The only thing we got flying this morning was a helicopter to do some low passes. The cold front came in early and brought fog, low clouds, and high winds with it. It was bitterly cold.

You are asking the only person in the state of Colorado that doesn’t watch football..

Heh! You're not the only one.

Lol...not on a fellow conservative, but a fellow non- football watcher. I can’t believe it. :)

My daughter has some furlined crocs. Don’t let this cold snap scare you. Denver/CO is great ‘cause you can get a blizzard one day and sunny weather the next. We routinely get many pleasant days in the winter.

All the guys at work are football nuts, and I’m the gun nut.
My eyes glaze over when they start talking football.
Their eyes glaze over when I start talking about guns.
It’s a trade-off.
(Although I’ve taken them shooting a heck of a lot more times than they’ve taken me to a game. The tide is turning.)

Lol...someone was trying to explain fantasy football to me the other day. They lost me after the first few words. Now I’m pro 2nd as you probably surmised, but if you started talking guns to me my eyes would glaze over. But heck, politics or music, I would be all lit up. :)

Nah. I wear flip-flops most days, even the past week.
