I saw this story yesterday and my blood started boiling. Notice that immediately 0bama turned the thing into his “America is racist” narrative? Like the guy had no other significance?

From the article:

OBAMA: “When the war ended, Richard headed home to Texas to a nation bitterly divided by race,” President Obama said. “And his service on the battlefield was not always matched by the respect that he deserved at home. But this veteran held his head high. He carried on and lived his life with honor and dignity.”

The nation was not “bitterly divided by race”. not according to people I know that were alive then.

Around 1950 Life Magazine did a story on surviving Civil War vets.

They found an old Confederate vet, he had no teeth, but he had a full head of black hair.

They asked him what his secret was for the hair, and he said, "Don't never wash it!"

That veteran should quit with the cigars and whiskey.
Those two habits are very bad for his health.

For a moment I immediately thought WW1 vet. I’m 30 years behind apparently.

I still think of ww2 vets as guys in their 60s.

Appropriately enough, The Grand Old Rag by Billy Murray was, arguably, the bestselling record on May 11, 1906, the day he was born.

“….on the porch, smoking a cigar, sipping a cup of coffee stiffened with whiskey.”

So why am I spending all this money on various medications when all it takes is a little Jack Daniels and a Cohiba every day? I wonder if they would be covered by Medicare?

I was struck by the bars on the windows and door of his house. Where does the poor man live? His house looks really nice but the bars are a shame. The generation that fought for true freedom have to live like prisoners in their own country.
