I am struck with the questions....where do these guys come from? Then, he introduced his father....that is where they come from. From the unpretentious men and women, fathers and mothers across this country who inculcated their children with the pride and appreciation of the institutions and men and women who came before them. Who gave that last, full measure of devotion. And it stuck with them. It was a place in their mind to which they have returned again and again. General Washington giving all for the ideal of a free people. The unsung soldier whose name we have never known or mentioned. The innocents of 9-11 who simply went to work that morning to provide for their families, who had hell visited upon them. God, I am proud of our military men and women who stand in the gap and secure for us the freedoms that todays politicians would find no interests in defending because it is all about their next election which might increase their self-aggrandizement. Rob is the heartland. Rob is the happy warrior,....the soldier who counts it as a privilege to be an American. I salute him and his brothers in arms to whom we owe so much.
God Bless the United States of America.
great comment friend , thanks
I’ll never forget that day , that night , as long as I live . It was still quite early here and I was at home watching Fox News and all of the sudden they break in and Obama comes on to announce to the nation and the world . I simply couldn’t believe it ! There had been a few advance hints in the preceding show , but the BIG NEWS was a shock . A happy shock ! I have this really BIG US flag on a 9 ft oak parade pole . I broke out that puppy and headed down to the nearest town , about 20 miles away and took up a position on the busiest street corner in town ( which ain’t saying much ) and stood there and vigorously worked that flag for an hour or two . It was well after dark by then and most drivers looked at me like I was insane . But a few drove by honking and fist pumping . They knew ! After a while I packed it up and went home and turned the tv back on . Turns out that 1000’s of people , all over the country were spontaneously turning out , including many in front of the White House . In my town I was the only one . I just want to thank Mr. Rob O’Neil for giving me that reason to go wave that U.S. flag . I will never forget . It was a great day/night for me .
YouTube: The Bridges of Toko Ri - Where do we get such men?
Ending scene, 00:07:30 minute mark of the 1954 film of James Michner's Korean War era novel, The Bridges of Toko Ri. Actor Frederic March portrayed USN RADM George Tarrant.
I don't normally watch CBS and had just gone there to see their weather prediction...didn't stick around to hear their version of the story.
Very well put. Thanks.
