I agree with this completely.

3 sitting US senators have been elected President, all were incompetent or worse. Being a chief executive and being a bullish*t artist are different skill sets.

Even losing Presidential candidates sitting in the Senate have been poor - McGovern, Dole, Kerry, McCain.

A governor or a flag officer would be a much better choice than Senator Anybody.

Clinton was a governor. So was Carter. Both were bad presidents, aside from their flaming liberalism.

Governorship is pretty meaningless.

Your absolute right im glad someone here has done the same research I have. No senator has ever made a good president. Something about the skill set and experience always makes them poor at the job.

Stephen Douglas was Senator from Illinois when he was defeated in the 1860 Presidential election (nominee of the Northern Democrats). He came in second in the popular vote (just barely) in a four-way race, but came in fourth in electoral votes. William Howard Taft didn’t manage to do that in 1912.

Seems you are unnecessarily using a very biased filter to make your point.

To date, sixteen senators have also served as president of the United States. Three senators, Warren G. Harding, John F. Kennedy, and Barack Obama moved directly from the U.S. Senate to the White House.

A governor or a flag officer

At this point, I think I'd prefer a Master Chief or Sergeant Major to a flag officer ...
