U.S. President Barack Obama defended his plan to use executive powers to implement some immigration reforms, saying in an interview broadcast on Sunday he had waited long enough for Congress to act.
Obama told congressional leaders on Friday he would try to ease some restrictions on undocumented immigrants, despite warnings from Republican leaders that such actions would "poison the well" or would be "a red flag in front of a bull".

Obama is very big on setting up that straw man, and knocking it down.
So because we can’t or won’t deport 11 million people, that means we have to have an executive amnesty?
So because Congress has waited too long, in Obama’s opinion, to act on an issue, that means we have to have an executive amnesty?
Does any of this make sense to any of you??
If only it were just 11 million. The true number is closer to 35 million.
GOP needs to quickly send up a border security bill & watch Obola veto. Nothing more than a security measure. Wishful thinking with GOPe but they need to play hardball with this douche.

When newly elected Dwight Eisenhower moved into the White House, America's southern frontier was as porous as a spaghetti sieve. As many as 3 million illegal migrants had walked and waded northward over a period of several years for jobs in California, Arizona, Texas, and points beyond.
In 1954, Ike appointed retired Gen. Joseph "Jumpin' Joe" Swing, a former West Point classmate and veteran of the 101st Airborne, as the new INS commissioner.
Influential politicians, including Sen. Lyndon B. Johnson (D) of Texas and Sen. Pat McCarran (D) of Nevada, favored open borders, and were dead set against strong border enforcement, Brownell said. But General Swing's close connections to the president shielded him – and the Border Patrol – from meddling by powerful political and corporate interests.
One of Swing's first decisive acts was to transfer certain entrenched immigration officials out of the border area to other regions of the country where their political connections with people such as Senator Johnson would have no effect.
Then on June 17, 1954, what was called "Operation Wetback" began. Because political resistance was lower in California and Arizona, the roundup of aliens began there. Some 750 agents swept northward through agricultural areas with a goal of 1,000 apprehensions a day. By the end of July, over 50,000 aliens were caught in the two states. Another 488,000, fearing arrest, had fled the country.
By mid-July, the crackdown extended northward into Utah, Nevada, and Idaho, and eastward to Texas.
By September, 80,000 had been taken into custody in Texas, and an estimated 500,000 to 700,000 illegals had left the Lone Star State voluntarily.
Unlike today, Mexicans caught in the roundup were not simply released at the border, where they could easily reenter the US. To discourage their return, Swing arranged for buses and trains to take many aliens deep within Mexico before being set free.
Tens of thousands more were put aboard two hired ships, the Emancipation and the Mercurio. The ships ferried the aliens from Port Isabel, Texas, to Vera Cruz, Mexico, more than 500 miles south.
The sea voyage was "a rough trip, and they did not like it," says Don Coppock, who worked his way up from Border Patrolman in 1941 to eventually head the Border Patrol from 1960 to 1973.

The IRS doesn't have the capacity to stop 100 million American taxpayers from violating the Internal Revenue regulations either.
But they charge a small percentage of the violators and make an example out of an even smaller number. That is enough to keep most of the rest of the taxpayers from violating the regs.
Good post. What ever happened to “Alien Registration Month”? I remember seeing TV ads for it when I was a child.
A very good argument could be made that the the Dems lost the Senate because they took up the immigration bill to begin with. It was the only thing they passd in four years and it got them bounced. The House is under no obligation to pass anything for immigration. Perhaps Obama’s patience is wearing thin, but who give’s a rats ass? It’s how our system of checks and balances works. The reason noting is passed is because there is no consensus.
The biggest reason any law about anything doesn’t pass the House, Senate, and Executive branch is because it does not have popular support. Amnesty does not have popular support. In fact, ‘not doing amnesty’ is what has popular support. If this wasn’t the case, Obama would have done amnesty years and years ago.
Any Immigration Bill should be done in three parts with success of the first part leading to beginning the next part.
Part 1-Secure he borders, including e-ID’s for any and all workers, penalties for employers, deportation of people here in our country illegaly.
Part 2-Following Part 2-Reform our immigration policies. What type of immigrant do we need? How many? If you do not show up to an immigration hearing, you are automatically deported.
Part 3-Deal with people here illegally in a humane fashion. What that means is to be determined.
And on the other hand is Boehner.
The GOP cannot do ANYTHING quickly. The Democrats control the Senate for the next 2 months. Reid will block anything so Obama can claim he’s acting because Congress will not.
However, America is not buying what Obama is selling. If the Democrats were smart, the more conservative Dem senators would ally with the GOP and pass a “Border Security” bill - which Obama would then veto so he could impose amnesty. But by doing so, the Dems voting for it would have some cover when their constituents get pissed.
Republicans are already behind the curve on this. They had better get out front and fast. Their idle threats and posturing are not going to deter Obama one bit. Pubbies need to commit to a well thought out plan of action right now to stop this wanton abuse of power. And that plan has to have teeth. Otherwise, why should Obama back off if there are no real consequences to him?
Reid will block anything so Obama can claim he’s acting because Congress will not.

You’re probably right about that but...Reid is not a happy camper right now. The election was a disaster for him and he seems very angry at Obama. Who knows what Reid will do under the present circumstances?
Obama is essentially a lame duck already and Reid has to look ahead. At the present time, Dems have a huge image problem. Again, you’re probably right that he will continue blocking things but there’s a slight chance that some things may be allowed to get through just to spite Obama for the damage has done to their party and to better position them down the road. Just my 2 cents.

Let’s reach out to black voters and get their opinion on 30 million brand new illegals to compete with for scarce jobs?
What will that do to them as a voting block? They will be of lessor value than they already were.
Grits, greens, and fried chicken may become outlawed. OK, that one isn’t likely.
Welfare will have to be cut way back, they’re is only so much to go around.
What will their neighborhoods look like, who wins the turf war?
They struggle with the English language, how will their ebonic speaking kids deal with Spanish?
Feed the Demonrats their identity politics back to them on a stick.

If e-verify enforced, all but hard cases will go back where they still have homes and families. Deport the criminals with hard timefor re-entry.
