Here to Stay: Why the New Republican Congress Can't Gut Obamacare BY MAGGIE FOX
Republicans may have promised to repeal or at least do a big makeover of Obamacare now that they control both the House and the Senate, but most experts believe its lip service only.
The 2010 Affordable Care Act is in full force across the country, with internet-based health insurance exchanges up and running, expanded Medicaid in 28 states and strict new requirements for health insurers. Here are five reasons the GOP-led Congress wont be able to change much.
The veto.
This is the big one: President Barack Obama still has veto power. Republicans may have a majority in the Senate, but they dont have the 60 seats needed to override a Democratic-led filibuster or a presidential veto. And Obamas not going to allow his signature piece of legislation to be gutted.
They like it.
Republicans actually like a lot about Obamacare. Its great business for health insurance companies, which in turn give plenty of money to Republicans. Republicans have also always agreed that more Americans need to be covered by health insurance. They just havent always agreed on how to get there.
The five major national health insurers have all seen their stock price at least double one has almost tripled since the ACA was enacted, and theyve all been raising their earnings estimates, says Jay Angoff, who helped construct health reform at the Health and Human Services department before returning to private law firm Mehri & Skalet. "Republicans are not going to try to repeal a law that has been such a boon to insurers: They are still a Republican constituency group."

Why hasn’t California challenged “The Affordable Care Act”
It’s NOT affordable, If California challenged the 2x4 size in home depot, why not the Affordable Care Act.
Like nothing at all.
end the mandate, end the subsidies, allow buying plans across the state lines. etc etc
Simple strategy, start with cutting mandates.
It’s amazing what a little fascism can do to raise stock prices.
Obamacare may yet suffer some losses in the Supreme Court.
The more people pay, and the less service they get, the more they will grow to despise Obamacare, and the worst is yet to come. Obama’s time is up in two years, and his veto power will walk out of the White House with him. Until them Republicans need to keep making the thug use his veto power, and they need to return the favor.
The writer is a moron - if the American people wanted to keep Obamacare, they would have elected more Democrats.
If the GOP can’t do a full repeal, it can dismantle the law piece by piece.
Beginning with dumping its most unpopular provisions. If Obama vetoes that, Democrats will be forced to choose between him and the American people.
Here is why I see it good as gone: almost every Democratic senator who voted for Obamacare is now gone. Mary Loser’s impending defeat in Louisiana next month simply drives the point home.
She is forgetting the political climate changed dramatically Nov. 4th. But by all means, let Ms. Fox keep pretending Obama’s signature political achievement has a secure future.
And that’s even before Obamacare premiums skyrocket beginning later this month.
Agree 100%.
Sadly it is likely true.
We had our chance to stop it’s inception, and we stayed home.
I’ve often been accused of having an Excel spreadsheet for a heart. I plead guilty.
Yep, the way to stop it is to legislate permission for alternatives.
Under the circumstances, I think it silly to claim that would exceed the “interstate commerce” powers of the Federal government (though in general that power is already over-extended).
Without the subsidies the uninsured won’t enroll. The whole point of Obamacare is to get them insured and paying part of the costs of the health care system.
If that no longer exists, the uninsureds will be right back where they started. Hence the panic on the Left if the US Supreme Court should strike subsidies down.
Then say good-bye to Obamacare.
Heck, we just had our annual benefits enrollment at my work and I can’t even afford health insurance anymore. It’s about five times more expensive now than it was 4 years ago. Rollin the dice on another year without health insurance.
Food costs continue to rise, housing costs rise, and most everything else has gone up as well. My pay... well it’s stayed the same of course. Annual raises were axed long ago regardless of performance.
I see lots of folks at the grocery store with WIC and EBT who appear to be getting by just fine though with their spendy food, name brand clothes, bling, and nice rides while I shop for generics and clip coupons.
Bitter? Maybe a bit lol

Why did she oil up her face?
If its such a great idea, I’d like to ask Ms. Fox why on earth the Democrats didn’t defend Obamacare during the election campaign? They had every opportunity to make the case for keeping it around.
They all ran away from it like the bastard child they no longer wanted to acknowledge. Its 100% their creation.
Contrary to what NBC says, Obamacare is not “up and running.”
By that I mean, the worse parts of it are yet to come.
Also, the House controls the purse strings. If they had a strong backbone, they could eliminate funding for this entire socialist boondoogle. Remember, I said “if.”
The moment we have a Republican President don’t believe for a second we won’t repeal much of this law (probably too late for a complete overhaul), but MOST of it will be gone, and the rest-we’ll try to privitize.
