That the ILGOP saw fit to nominate him, tell us all we need to know.

He won in the primary.

The state is a mess and just like the northeast is decline. The Pubs can't get downstate candidates to win and one county dominates the entire state.

Yup. I believe liberal fixers in the ILGOP and the Democrats cooked up a sweetheart deal.

That’s why he’s the Combine’s front man. He won’t do a thing to challenge Democratic hegemony in IL.

I was discussing this privately with another IL FReeper, and we’re not entirely convinced that Quinn lost the election. The Combine fixes races for “Republicans”, too. I’m here to tell you that if you win statewide in IL and you’re a Combiner, you’re corrupt.

The election was fixed for Quinn 4 years ago despite the overwhelming support of the Conservative grassroots and the state for anti-Combiner Brady (whom I and others believe won that year), while the grassroots was NOT supportive of Combiner Kirk (yet who managed to “win”). The Justice Department ought to launch a mass-scale investigation of the state, but they won’t, because of the number of people that would be implicated, and Zero himself is a Combiner (who owed his rise to their machinations to remove anti-Combiner Sen. Pete Fitzgerald from office).

I’m not questioning his being rich.

I’m pointing out he’s a supporter of Democrats, liberal causes and is tight with the Chicago machine.

He’s the right guy for the people who really run IL.

And the people of IL are are stupid as you are.

No! The problem is the media is incredibly biased and talk radio is almost non existent on a local scale. The newspapers are way left.

It’s not about you or me, goldstategop...

It is about demographics of electorate in blue states.
A RINO winning in blue states is usually far better than a hard left liberal winning who creates more dependents on government dole and beefs up democrat voters in the state. It is not really a complicated strategy.

When I lived in Illinois 16 years ago, it was not hard left. I recall voting for Mr. Ogilvie and Mr. Thompson, both republicans. Now the state is run by Obama clones. Only reason Rauner won is because the financial situation of Illinois is in terrible situation and sane democrats did not want the state to go bankrupt.

‘Supporter of democrats’. Look, it’s Illinois. Do I hate the fact that playing ball in a deep blue state sucks? Yeah.

Can we at least let him screw the pooch before we cry rape?

Being from Maryland, I do have a little background here. And I understand that if we wait for the perfect candidate who meets all our requirements, we will have far-leftwing office holders until the end of time.

If we have the Dems in office, we have no influence whatever, and never will.

If we have a Pubbie, even one that is flaky-left but is the best we can elect in a blue state like Maryland or Illinois, you at least have a little influence and a chance to slant things right, as opposed to having a total lefty that you have NO influence over and will absolutely destroy everything we believe in.

I would equate it more to the Pacific campaign in WWII, where you take the islands incrementally and win, rather than go for it all at once and lose hard.

Knowing he was a closet Democrat, I suspect in reality, the Chicago machine told every one to vote for him.

I think it might have been a little more subtle, but definitely along those lines.

What's killed IL is downstate conservatives can't get the suburban women vote and cook county won't produce a real fiscal and social conservative.

Why do do you have a problem with Rauner coming from an ‘affluent suburb’?

The north shore suburbs of Chicago are limousine liberal territory.

My view is somewhat different.

We must recruit and run people who believe in conservative values and even when they lose - never give up the fight.

If we proceed from the view that we must behave like Democrats to win by adopting their default as our worldview, we will never really win.

Only by being true to ourselves can we change the country. That means advancing conservatism even it takes us generations.

For me, doing what is right is more important than a meaningless victory.

You don’t understand the political situation in Illinois. You’re viewing it through the prism of Republican vs. Democrat. That’s not how it is there, not at all.

Nothing will change until the State can't pay it's Bonds. Even if we elected a Scott Walker it wouldn't matter because the House and Senate are firmly under Rat control.

Goldstate is right. The Combine maintains its power, the people lose.

Did you read the article? Or are you just blindly defending Rauner because he happens to have an “R” beside his name?

Without vision and good men - the people perish.

I don’t envy that people in IL do not truly have a free choice.

In some parts of the country, one party rule can metastasize into a form of tyranny.

I recall Lord Acton’s warning: “absolute power corrupts and corrupts absolutely.”

And I fear for my country.

I’m in Maryland for God’s sake! You think I don’t understand political corruption, and deeply entrenched leftists?

Tell me what your path to success is, setting aside the half-steppers like Hogan and Quinn

I don’t know Bruce Rauner as well as you claim you do, but, I don’t think he’s a ‘limousine liberal’.

Some of us did and weren’t afraid to let it be known.

I preached it too. Same Old S###, different day.
