There will always be jobs for people who know how to fix mechanical stuff.

And I remember when people used to make a living repairing TV's, too.

That’s why I left out “electrical stuff”. It’s possible to make electronics cheap enough to make repair economically non-viable. Cars, HVAC, and elevators, not so much.

once a large segment of the country lose their jobs, they won’t be able to buy new stuff...then you’ll see people that fix TV’s and radios and small appliances return....
