The GOP leadership (aka John Boehner) engineered the first time in sixty years that the federal government reduced actual spending two years in a row (2012-2013). Not just reduced the rate of increase. Reduced actual dollars spent.
Newt didn't do it. Denny Hastert never came close. No other republican did it either, not Nixon, not Reagan, not Bush. .
