Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is planning to make ObamaCare a priority in his first weeks as leader of the Senate, vowing a sustained effort to dismantle the law piece-by-piece.
Instead of a full repeal, McConnell said the GOP will tackle unpopular aspects of the law such as the individual mandate, the medical device tax and the 30-hour workweek requiring employers to provide insurance.
These are the kinds of things that I believe there is a bipartisan majority in the Senate to approve, he said in the interview with Time magazine published Wednesday. The only other priority he listed was the Keystone XL pipeline. The newly reelected senator isn't giving up on full repeal, however.
"He does support full repeal and will continue to push for it," McConnell spokesman Brian McGuire told The Hill.
Instead of a full repeal,”
that’s as far as I need to go. Get the louse out of the house.
Medical device tax is small ball, but hey, you gotta start somewhere!! I am NOT going to criticize until I can’t take it anymore.
Repeal it all. Let 0bama veto it. Defund it in the next budget, too.
Yeah, that’s what I’m really looking forward to. 0bama has never had to act on a real budget put on his desk. Let’s give him one.
You got that right!
Remember, Obama is still at the helm. He will veto anything they try about the ACA. He’s already said so.
I agree with building the Keystone. Though, I think they are building it piece by piece under the radar.
As much as I would like to see the entire Obamacare law fully repealed, last I checked BHO still wields a veto pen.
The best we can do right now is chip away at it piece by piece. And not fund it.
Until a new POTUS is elected.
McConnell who has helped Obama FOR YEARS
will never repeal ObamCARE/ROmneyCARE.
The stinking RINO will tinker for his Islamic Master.
This sounds like the way to do it.
But, even this is questionable. He really thinks he will get override majorities?
Obama might sign reforms that make the program less egregious.
Let’s say the Republicans want to take sways pieces that can be taken away. Fair enough, but they had better vote for a full and complete revocation and make Obama veto it it first.
McConnell should not be Majority Leader.
The House already passed full repeal. Bring it to a vote. Let Obama repeal it. THEN do the piecemeal thing.
Surrender before the first shot is fired. Cowards!
French Republicans.
Lobbyists love that device tax thingy. Time to see if Cruz will call on this.
It should be repealed now so corporations can go back to what they provided their employees in the past.
“He does support full repeal and will continue to push for it,” McConnell spokesman Brian McGuire told The Hill.
...
Sounds like he got a notice from the Ted Cruz wing of the Senate.
I will take the bits and pieces approach in the absence of anything else concrete. McConnell is being practical. You have to have a ready alternative to some of these programs and we are not there yet. Better to lop off some of the obvious overgrowths of bureaucracy, i.e. Med.Device Taxes, pull off the lowest hanging of the rotting fruit. It is a beginning.
Eventually, McConnell is going to have to make peace with the Tea Party. Either extend that olive branch yourself, or contend with Ted Cruz openly trying to snatch the branch away from McConnell’s control. All in good time.
“Remember, Obama is still at the helm. He will veto anything they try about the ACA. Hes already said so.”
Not sure your point.
The idea is to make Obama veto the repeal.
And pigs could fly and he may not veto it.
