MILWAUKEE In the glow of his recall election victory two years ago, Scott Walker looked like a conservative superhero a soft-faced Midwestern man who stripped public unions of their negotiating powers then crushed their campaign to oust him in a special election. To admirers, he was more than a governor; he was a gladiator.
These days, Walker looks more like any ordinary Midwestern man.
The politician who confidently lectured Mitt Romney in 2012 (He has to say that Im a reformer like Scott Walker, Walker told The Weekly Standard) has tumbled into yet another fight for his political life. Far from a conservative Clark Kent, Walker is visibly straining in the closing days of his race against Mary Burke, a wealthy former Trek Bicycle executive and member of the Madison School Board.
If Walker survives once more on Tuesday, it will represent another win for the divide-and-conquer strategy he has used since 2010 to become the dominant political figure in this traditionally Democratic state. It will also mark a downward revision of Walkers own aspirations: Instead of realigning Wisconsin behind a new vision for conservative reform and perhaps vaulting himself into the White House in the process Walker is struggling to assemble a bare majority that will keep him in the job he has.

Enjoy it. I am.
He would have had another point if we had voter ID.
Much better this time around - schadenfreudalicious!
Seven points in Wisconsin is saying something. Limp would be the word if he won Nebraska-Idaho-Montana-Utah.
What they were saying just last week about Scott Walker!
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
The demoncraps cannot come back from this shellacking. Every arsenal has been spent. When they had only the trotting out of the females with “War on Women” placards, that indicates that they are so morally bankrupt that they should be looking for headstones under which to bury their sorry @$$e$.
So if Democrats win by 1 point, it’s called “creaming” or “Shellacking”. When Republicans win by 7 points, it’s called “limping”. Got it.
Ha ha ha ..... My guess is that he’s the real threat to Hillary’s ambition.
Politico is a totally worthless left wing pig sty, posing as a news outlet.
Politico should be found on the fiction rack at the bookstore. The author must be writing about some parallel bizarro universe, not the one I live in where Scott Walker beat his opponent like a rented mule.
The story is from the 29th , when they expected Walker to lose, or barely win.
Walker should stay as governor. Jindal, Walker and other governors are terrible on immigration.
Gov Pat McCrory (NC) and Kris Kobach (SoS Kansas) 2016.
Right...people need to pay attention to the date of the article posted.
I think the big takeaway on this race is that this is one the Dems REALLY wanted. They spent a lot of money and still got beaten pretty easily. Scott Walker for 2016!
Remember the liberal mindset..its only a landslide when THEY win by 7+ points..when a Republican does it its called “Barely winning”
Walker is incredible, actually. The GOP hopefully sees a winner who we can hitch our horse to. Even Karl Rove last night on Fox didn’t hesitate to praise Walker’s success.
Liberals don’t understand conservatives.
They could never understand why any one would vote for them.
The vote in Wisconsin came to them as a genuine shock.
They still got it way wrong. If I recall, that was also after the last poll was released showing Walker had somehow “mysteriously” opened up a...surprise....seven point lead.
