Howie Carr’s show has been syndicated by Entercom for years—he tried to leave in 2007 but was forced to stay by a judge’s order for 5 years. Then Entercom picked up his option for 2 more years. Finally, the contract is expiring right about now and Howie signed with a company called Global Media to syndicate his show.
It’s been said Nov 17 is the date Howie will begin his show under his own control and it’s said he’ll be doing it from the studios of The Financial Exchange/Money Matters. But I have heard WRKO balked at carrying the new show; Howie’s people wanted “hard cash and ad money”.
This means that Howie’s listeners may have to rely on stations like WCRN AM 830 Worc. and WXTK 95.1 on Cape Cod. I don’t know if another Boston station would pick him up (and he’d still be online of course, and on the other affiliates). And WRKO would probably do fill in hosts the rest of the year and debut a new host early
next year, not sure who.
The situation could change; maybe they could come to terms but it’s looking this way. Howie has mentioned on air things like “my new office mates” including Barry Armstrong of Fin. Exchange; “we’ll have different music as ‘bumpers’ (coming in and out of ads” etc
MRBIboredop posted on radio discussions Oct 21 (NOTE: Later he mentioned how he talked to Howie and Cathy Carr for 20 min and the Nov 17 date was mentioned):
>>my sources say Howie will be out of Guest Street in under 30 days, taking Nancy Shack with him an an undisclosed board op/producer to Barry Armstrongs studios
Howie will lease his own office space in the same building and use Barry’s facilities for production/programming. Newsmax has offered use of their Florida facilities for his use too.
>>It is my understanding he has sales execs lined up for northern and southern New England. He has affiliate agreements in place and is ready to go.
Interesting, thanks. I plan to pick him up streaming, I have dl’d some of his past shows, interesting guy.
I listen to Howie now on my computer. Will I still be able to do that?
