The only real option is to work WITHIN the GOP and guide it towards more conservative agenda.

I’ve heard that line of reasoning since the ‘40s (literally), and it goes back well before that, I’m sure. It ain’t working. So far it has produced only two Conservatives: Coolidge (before my time) and Reagan (and I’m not sure what Reagan was, but he wasn’t a Socialist Liberal, and he articulated Conservative values very well).

Nothing seems to produce much of value to Conservatives.

I’m open to suggestions.

Amen, Brother FReeper. Furthermore, IF "we" had agreed to "work within the GOP" and made the mistake of electing Romney in 2012 instead of telling him to go to hell, today we would very probably be looking at Democrat gains in Congress and a Republican presidential administration going out of its way to cooperate with the Democrats on every front from government-run health care to environmentalism to homosexual marriage.

Happily, enough Americans in 2012 realized that indeed there WAS another "real option," to decline to participate in electing tyranny, and that smarter gamble paid off yesterday.
