Why You Shouldn’t Vote
Townhall.com ^ | November 2, 2014 | Derek Hunter

Look, I’m not going to lie to you – your vote matters. But let’s be honest, there are Republicans on the ballot who aren’t very conservative. Most of them don’t agree with me on everything and surely don’t agree with you on everything. In fact, many of them are downright awful.

So if you find yourself in a state where the Senate race is close, and you don’t like some of the things the Republican candidate stands for – just stay home.

A message must be sent: We conservatives could not beat all the people we don’t like in the primary, so we’re not going to vote.

That’ll show the establishment. That’ll show the country. That’ll show the future.

So if you’re a conservative in Colorado, don’t vote for Cory Gardner. If you’re in Iowa, show that Joni Ernst what’s what! Live in North Carolina? Who does that Thom Tillis think he is, anyway? From Kentucky? Let Mitch McConnell know who’s boss! Georgia? David Perdue? I don’t think so. Kansas? Teach that Pat Roberts a lesson! Live in New Hampshire? Scott Brown – yuck, am I right?

Look, if conservatives don’t draw a line in 2014, when will it be drawn?

Just because tea party and conservative candidates couldn’t win a majority in primary challenges doesn’t mean they aren’t the majority. It was dirty tricks and the establishment that screwed you … everyone knows that. So show the establishment you won’t take not getting your way anymore.

Honestly, what’s the point of voting for a candidate who agrees with you a majority of the time? Don’t vote. Let someone who you agree with on nothing win, and then next time – in six years – that person comes up for reelection, maybe the Republican Party will come to its senses and let you get your way.

I mean, what would be better for the country – Harry Reid or Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority Leader? Obviously Harry Reid. Mitch McConnell is a squish on a few things, wouldn’t run blocker for President Obama and wouldn’t be a rubberstamp for any Supreme Court nominee, or any court, for that matter. Where’s the lesson for the establishment for that?

Sure, I know, the country will have a court system packed with activist judges, and the president will use his magic pen and phone to grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens and who knows what else, but principle will be maintained. That’s a moral victory, right? Those count for something in politics, right? They have to count for something…

Of course, they count for nothing. Yet that nothing is what many millions of Americans, including many of you (judging by comments on other columns in which I’ve dealt with this topic), are prepared to vote for by stubbornly refusing to vote for a candidate who isn’t “your candidate.”

Sorry, your candidate lost, and your remaining choice sucks. I get it, I’ve been there. But so what! Get over yourself. Everyone who voted in the primary and your choice lost. It happens. It’s part of life. So you’re just going to quit?

If you want to right the ship of state, how did you think that would work? Your one chosen candidate would somehow undo half a century of constitutional disregard in 20 minutes? Of course not. It’s all going to be incremental. Nothing this big turns on a dime. But before it can get any better it has to stop getting worse.

Harry Reid remaining majority leader in the Senate means things continue to get worse. Barack Obama packing the courts with like-minded judges means things will continue to get worse.

There will come a point of no return, where we will tip over that ledge from which there is no coming back. If you stay home, or you cast a “message” vote for some third party nothing-burger, that’s what you’re voting for. That’s what you’ll get, and that’s the country you’ll be leaving for your kids to inherit.

A vote for anyone other than the Republican, no matter who that Republican is, is a vote for Harry Reid and Barack Obama.

You want to purge the party? Do it from a position of strength. I’m all for a battle royale for the soul of the Republican Party, but not until AFTER the Democrats are vanquished.

Tuesday, go vote. Vote for the Republicans. Send a message that you are not a moody, unreliable person who will take your ball and go home if you don’t get your way, but that you accept your party’s primary decision. It’s a decision you don’t like. It’s a decision you’ll fight in the next primary if necessary. But for the good of the country, you’ll live in “now” and work for the future.

Anything else is a vote for progressives, and anyone who does that is no conservative.

Go away troll, go back to dummy underground

Is that all the argument you have? Norm is not a troll, and neither am I. Hey, muir, how much have YOU donated to Free Republic over the years? Who the hell are YOU to call Norm, and by implication, yours truly, "troll" from "dummy underground" because we refuse the vote for the functional amoral Democrats-in-Republican-Jerseys that YOU are so desperate to legitimize on a conservative political forum?

You cannot defend your position, so you have to resort to "troll" and "dummy underground" junk.

Please -- if you're going to vote for functional Democrats, make sure they're in the Democrat party and STOP giving them aid and comfort on the Republican dime.

You can vote yourself into tyranny if you think that's smart. Norm, I, and quite a few other OLDER and WELL EXPERIENCED folks who've been doing it your way already for ages, have finally woken up.

You are still slumbering ... unfortunately, you are also spewing "troll" and "dummy underground" garbage as you talk in your sleep.

WAKE THE HELL UP.

A Conservative in the WH will change both houses and the Republican party.

A Liberal Republican in the WH will also change -- as in, damage irrevocably -- both houses and the Republican party.

You labor under the mistake of thinking that you're advocating, "Don't vote for the other guy."

But that is a lie. What you are REALLY advocating is, "Vote for the leftist Republican."

Failing to own up to that TRUTH is how we got to this point in the first place. I speak from experience -- it is entirely possible that I have voted for more leftist Republicans than you have, using the same flawed rationale as you. I have voted straight Republican party ticket in California for close to 40 years.

There is so much self-deception and LYING going on when "conservatives" urge smart people to ignore the warning signs and vote stupid.

Amnesty.
Funding socialist health care 3 times
Refusing to defend marriage...
Refusing to prosecute the Dems for Bhenghazi, FF, The IRS...
Supporting Arch liberal Mitt Romney for president
Refusal to fight Reid on anything.

Yup. the most conservative congress EVAH!

Again, thank you for saving us all any more time spent arguing with you. Because it’s clear you inhabit a far different reality than the rest of us. Just needed to get the actual facts of this congress out there.

Its all they have. Look at the entire thread. Duck, dodge, ignore and call names to do it all.

So far we have about 5 people unfamiliar with gradeschool civics, a couple unrepentant liars that can’t admit it when caught cold and a number of people, faced with hard facts determined to bull ahead with liberal voting ‘no matter what’.

This is the face of the conservative movement today and it is the very reason the libs are in charge.

Yep, Norm -- these people are, once again, frightened out of their wits and delusional.

Kozak and all the rest of self-described "conservatives" who will let pure fear manipulate them into voting for the very things they oppose, are ... delusional.

Kozak, WAKE THE HELL UP.

Normy, how dense are you? I’d say Neutron Star dense.

There’s been no amnesty ( there was one in 87)
Not a single Republican vote for Zero Care.
Romney, won the nomination of the party, you know votes and stuff ( I didn’t like it, but it was a fact).
To “prosecute” for Benghazi etc we need the Senate too. Reid hasn’t put up a budget, or tried to pass ANY legislation because..... Conservatives will fight him on it.

Reality Normy. You should try it. I know it’s less comfortable then your fantasy world but it actually matters.

Some are putting the yellow shirt on. Others are GOP plants reading a script. Must be. They all say the same things.

Look on the bright side. When they get what they work for and the country collapses due to their liberal support...remember they are ALSO this way in real life. Their neighbors likely don’t trust them either. And they will be very, very alone when the feral libs come calling.

Bummer.

Truth. Deal with it.

Man, the irony is so thick you could spread it on toast! {^)

This, from a guy who refuses to deal with the TRUE FACT that he is advocating that freedom-loving Americans vote for Republicans who will create more and bigger government on the same template as the Democrats.

Kozak needs to think that doing so is voting "against" the Democrats. Hey, I used to buy into exactly the same foolish rationale, so for me to call Kozak names or speak down to him as if he was a child or to call him a "troll" or other stuff that HE regularly does with those who used to agree with him but who now have figured out what he has yet to discern ... well, that would be kind of bad because I used to think the same way as Kozak.

So while Kozak is comfortable with insulting thee and me, Norm, and the rest of us FReepers (about 35 percent as far as I can tell, on this thread anyway) who have finally recognized the futility of voting "against" Democrats by voting for functional Democrat Republicans, I understand that Kozak is not childish, stupid, silly, or ignorant.

He is just frightened out of his wits into taking ridiculously stupid loser gambles, the same kind of fear that made me vote for Meg Whitman -- a vote I regret because I'd have regretted it if she'd won. Fear surrendered to makes people do stupid things. ALWAYS HAS, ALWAYS WILL.

Kozak and the rest of you, overcome your fear and replace it with courage to face the truth -- then and ONLY then, Kozak, will your vote be smart. Right now, it's just panicked and stupid.

Your ‘stats’ ignore the ‘facts and truth I posted that we discuss every day here. If you and others wish to ignore them, thats on you.

Some facts he/they wish to ignore include the founders warning us about doing exactly what the fear brigade demand. Namely Groupthink voting and voting on fear vs. voting on principle.

they ‘feel’ they are smarter than the founders because they advocate ignoring them and subverting the system they established. Now who does that? Not conservatives. But liberals, DO.

I ADMIT though ... Kozak, I DID level an insult at you in an earlier post, where I called you a "moron." I stand by that, incidentally, because I was referring to your being a mathematical moron.

Only a mathematical moron will spin a 1 out of a zero, as in, "If you don't vote or if you vote third party, it's the same as voting for the Democrat." That truly IS moronic. Mathematically and spiritually.

You seem confused over the meaning of the term “fact”.

Well Finny, you are a practical moron.
See people win elections by having a net majority of votes.
If you don’t vote, or throw away your vote on a fringe third party candidate, you HELP elect the Democrat by not canceling out the vote of a Democratic voter. Or is the math too hard for you?
See how that works in the real world? The one where elections are decided? Why do you think the Rats prop up Libertarians in close races?
