"Intruder" was set in the Navy (I know the pilot who was the inspiration for "Intruder") and his feelings about what happened match Broughtons.

From what I understand Broughton defended his pilots who fired upon a soviet freighter after being fired on first. Yeager mentioned how Jack destroyed the gun camera film, which would have been his best defense for his pilots.
I think Broughton was charged with destruction of govt. property, but effectively ended his military career.
A shame...
