“Coming out” is a really stupid idea for a fortune 500 CEO. What did they think the benefit would be?
Apparently Apple has run out of ideas for new products. Their new marketing plan is "Buy our stuff; our CEO is homosexual".

Favorable treatment by the Obama people such as the IRS, various regulators, State Dept in foreign issues, and a free pass to the Crony Capitalist Club.
Not to mention good treatment by the press, including burying unfavorable stories, or at least putting a positive spin on them.
Cook realized that “coming out” would have no negative impact to his company.
Unlike, for example, a CEO who came out as being “pro-life” or affirming that marriage should be between one man and one woman.
