Hill panic: 300-600 Senate Dem staffers would be fired in GOP win
Washington Examiner ^ | October 30, 2014 | Paul Bedard

With projections of a GOP win growing daily, nervousness in Senate committee offices has turned to panic as an army of Democratic staffers braces to be fired, replaced by a Republican majority and their aides.

The spoils of political war? Estimates are that 300-600 Democratic committee and personal staff jobs would be on the chopping block if the Republicans pull off the expected victory.

“There will be a mass exodus of Senate Democrat staff from committees,” said one insider.

And Republicans will get to hire hundreds more aides. A loss on Tuesday that keeps the Democrats in charge of the Senate will cost no GOP jobs, other than those working for retiring lawmakers.

Under a Senate deal cut by Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, the funding and staff breakdown on committees is about 60 percent for the majority, and 40 percent for the minority. It had been two-thirds majority, one-third minority, but the GOP cut the deal in order to keep their minimum funding at 40 percent.

Also getting hit would be the offices of Reid and other Democratic leaders.

For Democratic staffers, the potential layoffs couldn’t come at a worse time. According to officials, some will find jobs in the Obama administration, but those openings are few and will last only two years. And Hillary Clinton’s team is already loaded up with long-time aides, leaving few policy jobs for outsiders.

"There will be nowhere in the downtown private sector to go. Maybe 10 percent can find a slot in the Obama administration. It will be ugly," said a former White House aide now working on K Street.

That's because many lobbying firms are full-up with Democrats.

And there are already a sizable number of Democratic staffers already looking for work since their bosses are retiring.

“It could be a lot of individuals. And that’s not even counting all the people looking for work now with a retirement coming up,” said a key Senate Democratic staffer.

HAHAHA!!!! Couldn’t happen to a better bunch of people! I’d wish them all luck, but who would I be kidding? I hope they rot in unemployment.

They’ll have to go out and find jobs in the miserable economic conditions they’ve helped their nasty marxist bosses bring into being. Good.

Breaking!

300-600 Senate GOP staffers would be hired in GOP win!

That's called job-creation.

This is critical because most of the legislation is written by these people, and the Dems hide things in there that later blow up on even “good” bills. There will still be some of that, just less.

As for getting Dingy Harry’s, etc. offices - the Republicans would be well advised to have at least 2 separate and private security firms check for bugs, cameras, computer viruses, etc.

I think you are saying, “your turn” are you not?

A taste of their own medicine? Now you can access all the sub-subsistence benefits record numbers of former workers have turned to to avoid starvation?

Karma. I feel bad for anyone who works and loses their job. Even rats.

Whether they deserve it is another matter I suppose. But given where we are, it just might convert a few rats into conservatives once they realize the government will not be there to give them salaries and benefits beyond any equal in the private sector.

It may even make them grow up.

We can hope.

Maybe some of those liberal political workers will get a real job................”

Would love to see a list of how many of those haven’t paid their Federal taxes while they were working in D.C. Of course I’m sure it will be all be deducted from their final paycheck if/when this becomes a reality.

The Federal govt is spending funding for every leftist organization you can think of and they will absorb these people with 6 figures salaries…no problem. They will still be on the payroll so far as taxpayers are concerned.
Remember when Newt talked about “defunding” the left? That is something they did not get done and it has only gotten worse. Everything from Planned Parthood to Jesse Jackson gets money for nothing.

Yep. Change of power periodically is good. I still remember 40 years of continuous RAT Party control of the House. None of this Congressional stuff was originally conceived as jobs for life.

The Senate staffers aren't doing anything anyway.

Reid is sitting on most all legislation.

Maybe they could threaten to all go to Guam and try to capsize it.

Nothing in comparison when the GOP takes the whitehouse in 2016 and purges the payroll of all Obama Political appointees converted to direct hire.

If the GOP had any balls, this would read “Thousands of workers Fear Layoffs as GOP Eliminates EPA,IRS, Department if Education and shutters 100s of Esoteric Bureaucracies. “

Someone needs to tell these 300-600 staffers that we are simply looking to free them from job lock and if they have any questions they should go speak with Nancy Pelosi.
