I’m as sick of the whole thing as anyone, but as a pessimist as to where this is all going, I expect the incest prohibitions to fall in time. I still ask the question - how is the IRS going to handle this for estate tax purposes - when for example a wealthy great grandfather, whose spouse predeceased him, decides, on his deathbed, to marry his great grandson. Sounds pretty absurd on first reading it, but you are changing the transfer of property between generations to one of leaving property to a spouse. All the GST code provisions assume you have distinct sequential generations. By allowing incest, you can compress the generations and eliminate GST.
libertarians must be celebrating
Dan was a single guy in his fifties who was living at home with his widowed father and working in the family business.
When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died, he decided he needed to find a wife with whom to share his fortune.
One evening, at an investment meeting, he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away. “I may look like
just an ordinary guy,” he said to her, “But in just a few years my father will pass away and I will inherit over $200 million”
Impressed, the woman asked for his business card and three weeks later, she became his stepmother.
Women are so much better at financial planning than men.
