During a debate with Democratic challenger David Alameel, Texas Sen. John Cornyn said it is time to reach a "consensus" on immigration reform by "finding parts that we agree on," including providing children of illegal immigrants access to education.
"I believe education is the way out," the Republican said.
He added that the children of parents "who did not comply with our immigration laws are guilty of nothing," and "it makes no sense to condemn them to a minimum-wage job for the rest of their lives when they could produce so much more, when they could be so much more. They would benefit, their families would benefit, and our nation would benefit."
The debate, hosted by KUVN and Univision 23, was little more than a formality as the latest CBS News/YouGov poll finds Cornyn with a 57 percent to 35 percent lead over Alameel.
The debate marked the latest in a series of comments and remarks that indicate Cornyn's positions on some aspects of immigration reform are softening.
"We have a broken immigration system and I am one who would like to fix it.

” The Chamber of Fascism is indeed one of the major strings-holder in running the GOP Establishment.”
It is THE major. Sadly, a majority of Republicans in D.C. have been bought off by them, or one of its financiers.
Pretty much nails it.
I have no idea what is going on inside your head since this pinging comes out of the blue when you do it to threads that we aren’t even on.
Quit doing it.
If there is some old post you want to repond to do it on THAT thread so that I can know what you are responding to and what the thread is about.
But nobody believed us about it.
Good job, I must say.
The fact that Cornball is second in line in the Republican leadership ranks is very telling to what the Republican Party is.
This is going to be fun seeing the total number of ballots and and total number of votes for senate.
I for one have had my fill of democrat lite. Same as lite beer, not worth the piss.
Then we can discuss the rest.
Cornyn has never looked out for anyone but himself. He continues to get re-elected on name recognition only.
” But nobody believed us about it.”
Some did. Some already knew the truth too.
Who needs the GOP anymore when we have Obama?
TINVOWOOT
Thanks to Texas’ long standing DREAM Act, kiddo’s randomly assigned dorm mate was an illegal who got a full ride just for being an illegal. Despite graduating 3rd in HS class, kiddo had to work to get a few small scholarships and we scrimped and sacrificed to pay the vast majority of the tuition.
If people in the middle class would stop voting for the very people causing this instead of serving them, then perhaps their neighborhoods wouldn’t be what they have become. My point was that if they keep electing these people they deserve what happens to them. SOMEBODY elected this human garbage. They didn’t get there on their own. So those someones should live with the consequence of their actions.
Voters on the right continuing to be their own worst enemy shouldn’t go on conservative sites and bitch about what their knowing votes do to them. Not one person on FR is unaware of the repeated promises by the GOP to pass amnesty. It logically follows that people who know this and vote GOP want amnesty. They will be knowingly voting to make it happen.
And there is no denial or excuse acceptable. Words mean things and actions speak for themselves.
Strike 3
I am really despising the pandering of politicians to someone I have to pay taxes to feed, clothe, shelter, and provide medical care and an education for while denying my own family the same ESPECIALLY when they don’t pay ANY damn income tax and they increase MINE so they don’t have to...
Do you understand the mechanics of how Senate power is divvied up after an election? Can you explain it to me? If Cornyn gets less votes than his last election, doesn’t he have to explain that?
I mean, if Abbott gets X votes but Cornyn gets X - 25% of votes, Republicans are actively not voting for him.
Thank you.
