My pet unprovable conspiracy theory is that, while looking to the future, Romney's minions persuaded McCain to pick a very bright but still obscure up-and-coming Alaskan politican (that Romney knew about) as his running mate and then persuaded McCain to staff the VP candidate staff with evil Romney minions.

I still lend credence to this theory because, historically, it appears JOHN MCCAIN AND THE REPUBLICAN PARTY INTENDED TO LOSE THE 2008 ELECTION, and in the process, to discredit the brightest Conservative political star since Ronald Reagan.
