The Maintenance manual published by the airline is part of the continued airworthiness certificate of that aircraft as approved by the FAA, and all parts, procedures, and materials used on the aircraft must be listed in the manual by the airline operating the particular aircraft.
Rules governing what can and can’t be done on an airliner are not like what you can do to your car.
