Jack Bruce, the singer and bassist for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Cream, has passed away, his family confirmed the musician's passing on his Facebook page. He was 71.
"It is with great sadness that we, Jacks family, announce the passing of our beloved Jack: husband, father, granddad, and all round legend. The world of music will be a poorer place without him, but he lives on in his music and forever in our hearts," the Bruce family wrote. Bruce's publicist added, "He died today at his home in Suffolk surrounded by his family." No other details were revealed but the Press Association reports that the bassist suffered from liver disease.
As one-third of one of rock's greatest trios, along with guitarist Eric Clapton and drummer Ginger Baker, Bruce was the voice and songwriter behind classic tracks like "White Room," "SWLABR," and "Sunshine of Your Love," which Bruce co-wrote with Clapton. Considered to be the first rock "supergroup," Cream pumped out four studio albums in three years three of which landed on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time before going their separate ways.

One of my favorites. Couldn't believe that was Clapton with that hair until he started shredding a solo. Then there was no doubt.
Earlier version w/Leslie West and Jack Bruce on bass.
“The icons fall daily.”
That’s pretty much what hubby said when he heard this sad news.
Rest in Peace, one of the very best.
When I began reading this story, I started thinking of this video.
I guess I better break out the headphones.
R.I.P.
Condolences to family and friends of Jack Bruce. The greatest 3 man rock-and-roll band EVER.

One of my all-time favorites. R.I.P. Jack.
Odd but I did a Jack Bruce youtube session lately of some number of hours. I haven’t done one like that on anyone in music for months. Highly suggest this as its recent enough and shows what a consummate professional this man was. Have to agree with the commenter that Moore sounds more like Clapton than Clapton does these days.

I was a huge fan from the start of Cream to some time later. Only time I saw him was with Golden Palominos in Boston 1984 to finally hear that exquisite voice.
1971 I went out west to chase a girl and took a portable suitcase record player and three albums, one being Harmony Row. Played the grooves out of it. One other was Who’s Next but can’t remember the last of the three...but it was this fabulous record that I played all the time.
I’ve read he lived in Tel Aviv and sure wonder what he was doing there besides keeping his voice...death by liver disease tells you something though.
A couple of favorites.

Hendrix referred to that one as what he was currently listening to, some drive-by interview that survives. He also did “Sunshine of your love” live at least once, it’s around here somewhere.
When music was grand!
Most of the lyrics were by Pete Brown, a poet friend of Jack Bruce. JB typically wrote the music.
Part of the English soundtrack of Vietnam, 68-69.
Thanks for the link. I’m not familiar with Gary Moore so I look forward to listening to those tracks. If I were three or four years older I might have seen Cream live. Them’s the breaks! Who’s Next is among the first albums I owned too.
I hadn’t heard that before either. I was confused and thought Bruce was part of Mountain and did a search for something by them. Came up with JB doing TFAIW on piano. A stroke of luck! ;-)
