Nicolle Wallace, former Communications Director for President George W. Bush and current co-host of the View, appeared on the syndicated show Wendy Wednesday afternoon to talk about her new gig as well as her career in Republican politics.
During the interview, Wallace, who spends much of her time criticizing her fellow Republicans, endorsed the idea of Hillary Clinton running for president in 2016. The former Bush staffer declared that she was a huge fan of the idea of a Hillary Clinton candidacy.

Maybe it was true. Maybe the blogger wanted to get back at Romney. Or maybe he wanted to cover for all the attacks core McCain loyalists at the top of the campaign (like Wallace and Schmidt) actually did make on Palin.
But now everybody apparently assumes that everyone at the top of McCain's campaign was somehow really a Romneyite. It's funny how that happened.
I suppose, as Republicans, Schmidt and Wallace supported or were assumed to support Romney in the 2012 general election, but probably most of us did the same. They weren't Romney loyalists and they weren't above sniping at Mitt or putting in a good word for Obama.
More here.
There have been numerous articles/posts here on FR listing the interconnections with Romney/McCain and many of the people who were supposed ‘ex’ Romney people went on to work on the McCain/Palin team.
Why claim it was somehow secret Romneyites in the campaign who were close enough both to Palin and to reporters to pass on details and rumors, when McCain's own people were doing it?
Occam's razor (also written as Ockham's razor and in Latin lex parsimoniae) is a problem-solving principle devised by William of Ockham (c. 12871347). It states that among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected. Other, more complicated solutions may ultimately prove correct, butin the absence of certaintythe fewer assumptions that are made, the better. -- Wikipedia
A story gets started and then it gets taken for fact. There may be a little truth in it -- once Romney's next campaign got started, his people talked down potential rivals as any campaign does, and who knows what some random anonymous source might have said at one point or another -- but not enough truth to sustain the megamyth that keeps growing.
Schmitt and Wallace WERE Romneybots. It’s WHY they sabbed Palin. They had Romney connections prior to McCain.
[dragging this from another thread]
Our problem here is Rick Perry has hired Steve Schmidt 6 weeks ago to ostensibly help with the Lehmberg problem but in reality as a political operative and all of a sudden Cruz-bashing threads start showing up on FR.
You can be sure Schmidt is behind this. While not being a rabid Perry fan, I could have dealt with him being POTUS until he hired this Sarah-assassin to take out Cruz.
We have, Houston... a new problem.
Where's the proof, though? Check out their bios. They worked for Bush. Schmidt moved on to Schwartzenegger. Then they went to work for McCain. Where's the Romney connection?
If they were for Romney why'd they keep him off the ticket in 2008 and choose Palin instead? Why didn't they work for Romney in 2012, or at least support him more whole-heartedly?
I remember reading it all over FR when it was current. I don’t have the links. It wasn’t a one off. There were 1000 post threads going all over the schmitt/Wallace/Romney connections. I cannot be alone remembering so anyone reading, feel free to chime in.
Whenever I’m curious about a connection I just google the names for images and when the googled people show up arms around each other around the canape table drinking champagne, that clears it up for me.
As to the second part, They are mercenary. they are hired to do a job. Thats the very nature of what they do.

The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign. At issue is a question that was never resolved following McCains loss in November: Who in the McCain campaign was secretly trashing Sarah Palin to the press? (snip) .... What follows is the email exchange with Bill Kristol that Schmidt rooted out, where Scheunemann speculates that the source of the Diva leak was Nicolle Wallaces husband. Read from the bottom up:

Steve Schmidt: GOP plan for Ted Cruz? Canada

Discussing video of Sen. Ted Cruzs father telling a crowd he wants to send President Barack Obama back to Kenya, former John McCain adviser Steve Schmidt says the GOP has some ideas about where the Texas senator can go.
A lot of Republicans I think tonight look at Ted Cruz and wish Ted Cruz would go back to Canada, Schmidt said Thursday night on MSNBCs Last Word.
Schmidt was referencing the fact that Texas Republican was born in Canada, though experts say his American mother still makes him a natural citizen if he were to run for president.
The Republican strategist said the party knows it needs to reach minority voters, and that Cruz continues to lead them off message and drive down their popularity.
At a time when Republicans have opportunities to really define the policy deficiencies, I would argue in Obamacare, were once again talking about distractions caused by Ted Cruz tonight, Schmidt said. Were following ideologues down a policy path that will ultimately lead to the destruction of the Republican Partys ability to compete as a national party.

The name Romney doesn't appear in the original article. The poster changed the title.
In another thread, somebody claimed that Mark Wallace gave money to Romney and served on his Texas fundraising committee, but then reported that it was another Mark Wallace.
People went on repeating that there was a Romney connection, though. It became an article of faith.
Granted, there's a feeling that Establishment Republicans are all in it together, and you can't prove a negative, but if you've got the primary suspects and they don't have clear Romney connections, could it be time to rethink the story?
Oh, there’s lots more, still digging.
The point is, and one of us needs to start a thread about this, is Steve Schmidt, who has told Ted to go back to Canada, has multiple knives in Sarah’s back, and joined Rick Perry’s campaign 6 weeks ago, and the strong intuition I have that Romney is getting behind Perry.
GOPe starting yesterday is actively sniping at Sarah and Ted. We need to put together a who’s who awareness campaign against THEIR campaign.
