Back in the day, we had shotguns in our pickups out in the school parking lot and carried knives and Skoal in class and no one thought a thing about it. If you had a problem with a girlfriend, you dumped her or punched the guy who was flirting with her and dumped her anyway and put on your big boy pants. No one was kicked off the football team for what happened off the field. No one shot up the school.

It seems like this kid had a dad in his life and lots of family support. But something is missing in today’s kids.

...” something is missing in today’s kids”....

Enjoyed your post... and that’s not far from how it was as I grew up and in school. We had a lot of ‘freedom’.... Sure fights happened from time to time...teachers broke them up and life went on. It was part of guys becoming men. They knew they had to “defend” something...be it a girl a game or whatever. And nobody was sued for “touching their kid”. Ever!

What’s missing in kids today...I could make a list easily...but what or who do they ever “defend” apart from themselves? Nothing at all. But they sure do “protest” everything they’re lead to do so. Those are two different things.

Further they haven’t a clue what relationships are....nor for. Not in family nor in those they date....they don’t know “How” because their noses remain fixed on computers and cell phones....”empty” of life.
