8 million Muslims in the U.S; if only 1% of them pursues authentic Islam (translation: Islam that is backed by unequivocal doctrine), that number is about 80,000.

It is not "becoming radicalized", because there is nothing "radical" about their beliefs. There is a whole body of scholarship on this issue.

So when will we have debates on the legitimacy of Islam as a peaceful religion, deserving 1st Amendment protections?

Of the entire field, there is only one man that can make that case: Allen West. Search youtube: search terms of "allen west" and "islam" or "muslim"

This is probably a national survival issue.
